WASHINGTON, DC: As the United States, Israel, and Iran continue negotiations over a ceasefire and Iran's nuclear program, a viral claim on X reports that Israel said President Donald Trump is "begging for a deal" and wants peace "at any cost." The talks are aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing tensions following the recent US-Israeli conflict with Iran, with Trump describing the negotiations as a last chance for a deal. Let's fact-check it.

Claim: Israel claims Trump is begging for a peace deal with Iran

Israeli media outlet N12 reported, citing unnamed sources, that President Donald Trump and his advisers want to reach a deal with Iran regardless of the cost.

The negotiations aim to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address Iran's nuclear program after the recent conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Trump has described the talks as a "last chance" to reach an agreement.

It is unclear where the viral rumor first started. However, an X post claimed, "BREAKING: Israel says Trump is begging for a deal and wants it at any cost, adding that 'the distance between peace and war with Trump is the distance between letters on a keyboard,' a senior Israeli official tells Channel 12."

The claim spread as Trump continued to push for easing tensions in the Middle East through ceasefire efforts, Iran negotiations, and coordination with Israel. The post quickly gained attention on X, receiving more than 2,100 likes, hundreds of comments, and reposts.

Fact Check: False, no evidence to support the claim

The claim that Israel said Trump is "begging for a deal" with Iran at any cost is false. Neither the White House nor Iran has confirmed the alleged remarks. Although the claim has spread widely on X, there is no primary evidence showing that Channel 12 published the quote or that a senior Israeli official made the statement.

Several social media posts repeat the same claim and attribute it to an unnamed senior Israeli official speaking to N12. However, the word "begging" appears to be an interpretation rather than a direct quote. Many of the posts also fail to provide a clear Channel 12 source or any supporting evidence.

The US and Iran are indeed holding talks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address Iran's nuclear program. US officials have said the negotiations are making progress, while Israeli officials and media have previously expressed concerns about Washington's approach to Iran.

Trump has also publicly said he wants to reach a deal quickly. However, these developments do not confirm the viral claim or the alleged quote attributed to a senior Israeli official.
