Although Stewart once expressed uncertainty about living in the US under Trump, there is no evidence of her making the exact remark.

Earlier this year, while promoting her directorial debut film 'The Chronology of Water', Stewart opened up about the challenges she faces in the current political climate in the country, saying she “probably won’t stay in the US.”

Describing the situation to The Times of London, she said, “Reality is breaking completely under Trump. But we should take a page out of his book and create the reality we want to live in.”

When asked about her desire to stay in the US under Trump, she responded, “Probably not. I can’t work freely there. But I don’t want to give up completely. I’d like to make movies in Europe and then shove them down the throat of the American people.”

Stewart’s remarks were about Trump’s threat to tariff the films made outside of the US. Taking to his Truth Social account, Trump wrote, “Our movie-making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby.’"

"California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit!”

Arguing that the measure was necessary to address what he described as a long-standing issue, stating, “Therefore, in order to solve this long-time, never-ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States.”
