Fact Check: Did Mamdani mention interviewing Charlie Kirk in a post after his death?

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Ahead of the first death anniversary of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a rumor has spread on social media, claiming to show a post by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani paying tribute to Kirk after his death. He reportedly also mentioned that he interviewed Kirk. The claim has sparked questions and speculation, prompting a fact-check into the rumor.

Claim: Zohran Mamdani interviewed Charlie Kirk

The rumor spread as an X post, claiming to be from the official account of Mamdani, which has his photo and a blue tick, dated September 11, 2025.

The alleged post read, “I interviewed with Charlie Kirk just last month, and I saw a passionate young man who loved his country. Devastated to now learn of his assassination. Political violence has no place in our nation. We must turn down the temperature and stand united against hate. I pray for Charlie’s family and loved ones.”

The post has sparked surprise and speculation among online users, with many asking when the interview took place.

Fact Check: The post was not from Zohran Mamdani's official account

The claim, however, is false, as there is no evidence of Mamdani making such a post in tribute to the slain conservative activist.

Although the post is authentic, it did not come from Mamdani's official account, but rather from the account belonging to the New York City Mayor before Mamdani took charge, which has been previously used by the Democratic Socialist’s predecessors.

The city’s mayor at the time of this post was Eric Adam, who paid tribute to the former TPUSA CEO the day after his death.

Mamdani did post on X condemning Kirk’s assassination, stating, “I'm horrified by the shooting of Charlie Kirk at a college event in Utah. Political violence has no place in our country.”

TPUSA sees surge in student growth after Charlie Kirk's death

A year after Kirk’s death, TPUSA saw substantial growth across its student network, with 3,500 Club America high school clubs, up 180% from the previous school year, and 1,500 college chapters, up 64%, serving more than one million students. 

This surge reflects an extraordinary wave of interest that followed Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University last year.

According to the organization, more than 2,500 people attended its 2026 Chapter Leadership Summit, which is twice the attendance recorded in 2024, and more than two-thirds of those attendees became involved with TPUSA after Kirk’s death.
