WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene is one of the more frequent stock traders in Congress. In April, just before President Donald Trump's tariff pause sent markets soaring, she bought thousands of dollars in stock, according to Business Insider.

Recently, a rumor circulated online claiming that Marjorie Taylor Greene bought Palantir shares days before ICE awarded the company a $30M contract. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: MTG bought Palantir shares days before ICE awarded company $30M contract

In late April, a rumor circulated online claiming that Marjorie Taylor Greene bought shares of Palantir Technologies — a company that sells data analytics platforms for intelligence gathering and surveillance — just days before US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced awarding a $30 million contract to the company.

An X user shared the claim and wrote, "This is pretty wild. Marjorie Taylor Greene bought stock in Palantir on April 8th. On April 17th, a $30M deal between Palantir and ICE was announced. Greene sits on the House Committee on Homeland Security. The stock has now risen 48% in the three weeks since her purchase."

The post has so far garnered 4.5 million views and around 29,000 likes on X.

Another X user posted on April 30, "Marjorie Taylor Greene bought Palantir stock on April 8th of this year. On April 17th a $30M deal between Palantir and ICE was announced. That dumb sasquatch sits on the Homeland Security Committee. Palantir stock has risen 48% in less than three weeks."

True: Palantir stock was purchased in Marjorie Taylor Greene's name

The claims made in the online rumor are true, as a review of Greene's financial disclosures showed that Palantir stock was bought in her name in early April, days before ICE announced it had contracted Palantir for its activities, according to Snopes.

Moreover, Palantir's stock increased 60 percent from the day she acquired the shares to May 2, 2025, per the fact-checking outlet.

However, it is unclear if Greene specifically bought the shares herself or whether someone else manages her portfolio on her behalf.

Moreover, even if she directly made the trades, it's not clear whether she knew that such an announcement was going to take place, Snopes reported.

Proof: Capitol Trades shows Greene acquired Palantir shares in April

Capitol Trades, a database that compiles all of the trades elected officials make, showed that Greene acquired Palantir shares in April.

The disclosure reveals that she acquired between $1,000 and $15,000 of the shares for $77.32, and $92.01 a share on two consecutive days in April.

Moreover, a search of the Federal Procurement Data System showed that on April 11, ICE contracted Palantir for a surveillance system made to prioritize people for deportation based on criminal activity and "visa overstay", the fact-checking outlet reported.

ICE awarded Palantir $29,898,236 for the system, and the deal was made public on April 17.
