Several posts circulating on X claimed that Martina McBride had pulled out of the Great American State Fair. According to the viral claims, McBride became the fifth out of nine performers to allegedly withdraw from the event because of concerns over President Donald Trump and the politicization of the celebration.
The Great American State Fair is a 16-day event scheduled to take place from June 25 to July 10, 2026, on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Organized by Freedom 250 as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, the fair will include state and territory pavilions, rides, food, exhibits and live performances.
The claims about McBride’s allleged withdrawal followed reports that several other announced performers, including Young MC, C+C Music Factory, Morris Day and The Commodores, had also backed out because of the event’s connection to Trump’s Freedom 250 nonprofit. Despite the reported cancellations, the event continues to promote a lineup featuring several popular acts from the 1980s and 1990s.
Reacting to the controversy online, one commenter wrote, “Why so vague? Misled about what? Just say what is the problem? Issues with participants? Maybe you’re wrong — we’ll definitely fact check it.”

Fact Check: Martina McBride did refuse to perform at Freedom 250
Martina McBride did confirm that she would no longer perform at the Great American State Fair, which is part of Freedom 250 events scheduled to take place on the National Mall from June 25 to July 10, 2026.
In a statement shared on her official Instagram account, McBride wrote, “I would like to talk to you and clear the air. I will not be performing at the Great American State Fair on June 25th.”
She explained that she initially agreed to participate because she believed the event was nonpartisan. “I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event, but that turned out to be misleading. I asked lots of questions and was assured this was a nonpartisan event that was meant to celebrate all 50 states,” she wrote.
McBride further shared her thoughts about the event, saying, “In my mind, I thought this was a great way to celebrate the states and also bring people together in the way that only music can. I saw it as just a bigger version of so many state fairs I have performed at over the years, celebrating community and what makes each state special. Sounds fun, right? Wholesome even.”
She added that her understanding of the event later changed. “Yesterday things started changing, and what we were told is, in fact, not what is happening. I've spent my entire career singing songs about real people with real issues. I've been blessed with the opportunity to be a voice for those who have felt like they didn't have one,” McBride stated.
Concluding her message, she wrote, “It greatly upsets me that any fan who has been moved by my music may now feel like I'm abandoning the meaning behind those songs. I assure you, that is not the case. I appreciate every single fan who has reached out. I hope to get back to the DC area very soon.”
