Fact Check: Did photos show Barack Obama walking with mystery white woman in New York City?

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former US President Barack Obama has been campaigning for Democratic candidates ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections. Amid his campaign appearances, a photo allegedly showing Obama walking with a mysterious white woman in New York City has circulated on social media. On Saturday, October 24, Obama attended rallies in Cleveland, Ohio, and Detroit, Michigan. His next announced campaign stop was Atlanta on October 28. But does the viral photo really show Obama with the woman? Let's fact-check.

Claim: Barack spotted in NYC with mysterious white woman

The rumor originated from an X user named SamSon, who posted the caption, “Barack Obama spotted in New York City with a mysterious white woman.”

The post included two candid photos showing a man wearing a beige suit walking closely with a blonde woman carrying a Louis Vuitton bag. The caption led users to believe that the man was former US President Barack Obama.

The post, published on October 25, 2026, quickly gained more than 1 million views and significant engagement within 24 hours.

However, replies and Community Notes identified the people in the photos as T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, former ABC co-hosts who have been photographed together publicly.

One user wrote, "obama really out here in nyc with a random woman like we won’t notice lol." Another person questioned, "Wow, so he's cheating on Michelle??? Interesting."

Fact Check: False; the image is miscaptioned

The image is miscaptioned. The claim that Barack Obama was spotted in New York City with a “mysterious white woman” is false. The photos in the viral post show T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach, not the former US president.

Community Notes on the original X post and several replies correctly identified the man as Holmes, a former ‘Good Morning America’ co-host, and the woman as Robach, his wife and former GMA co-host.

Holmes has a similar build, graying hair, and facial features that can resemble Obama in certain side-profile photos or pictures taken from specific angles. This resemblance has confused people before, including an incident the couple discussed on their podcast.

Holmes and Robach reportedly married in a private ceremony on September 19, 2026, with news of their marriage emerging around October 13.

The couple has been photographed together in New York City several times, including shortly before the viral post circulated. Paparazzi-style photos of them shared in mid-to-late October 2026 match the images used in the claim.

No reliable news reports or official sources support the claim that Obama appears in the photos or was seen with an unidentified woman in New York City at the time. The viral post is a case of mistaken identity.
