Obama takes aim at Trump on midterm campaign trail: 6 scathing remarks from his latest rallies

Obama drew laughter in Cleveland and Detroit by poking fun at Trump's changes to the White House, including the ballroom project, Rose Garden alterations and extensive gold-colored decorations. "He should be on HGTV," Obama joked, suggesting the president was more interested in remodeling the White House than addressing household expenses. He also compared the building's appearance to a Cheesecake Factory decorated by Saddam Hussein. Trump has defended his White House renovation plans as improvements to the presidential residence and its facilities.

Former President Barack Obama accused Donald Trump of contributing to rising living costs during his October 24 campaign rally in Cleveland, Ohio. Obama argued that the president's decisions, particularly the conflict with Iran, had made everyday expenses more difficult for American families. He also criticized Trump's priorities, saying the president was "clearly not focused on lower prices for you." Obama linked his criticism to the upcoming midterm elections, urging voters to hold the administration accountable for its economic record. Trump has defended his economic policies, arguing that tariffs protect American industries and that military action against Iran serves US national security interests.

Former President Barack Obama sharply criticized Donald Trump's handling of the Iran conflict during his October 24 campaign rally in Cleveland, questioning the decision to launch military strikes. "The current president chose to make a series of bad decisions," Obama said. "Most importantly, he decided to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for." Defending the 2015 nuclear agreement negotiated during his presidency, Obama argued that diplomacy had been a better approach. "I didn't have to fire a missile to do it. I just had to engage in diplomacy," he said. Obama also claimed that Iran had gained leverage over global oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, blaming the conflict for rising fuel prices. "Iran now has veto power over the Strait of Hormuz," he said. Trump defended his administration's approach at a Georgia rally the same day, arguing that the 2015 nuclear agreement had provided Iran with a path toward developing nuclear weapons. He also credited US military operations with severely damaging Iran's nuclear enrichment capabilities.

Obama delivered some of his sharpest criticism of Trump during his October 24 rally in Detroit, accusing the president and his associates of using public office for personal financial gain. "We have never seen a president excel in straight-up grifting, on your dime, like this," Obama said. He also accused Trump of selling political favors and questioned the financial dealings of the president's family and associates. Obama argued that Republican lawmakers had failed to hold the administration accountable, accusing the party of enabling what he described as corruption.

Obama also targeted two prominent Trump allies during his October 24 campaign appearances: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Mocking Hegseth's focus on military fitness and appearance standards, Obama described him as "laser-focused on important matters like the jawline and testosterone levels of our troops." He then turned to Ramaswamy's controversial campaign advertisement featuring the estranged mother of Democratic opponent Amy Acton, who has spoken publicly about childhood abuse and homelessness. "In recent days, we've seen there is no line he will not cross, no low he will not sink to," Obama said. He questioned how political standards had fallen to the point where such an advertisement could be aired. Ramaswamy has defended the advertisement, which Trump and Vice President JD Vance have also supported. Several Ohio Republicans, including Governor Mike DeWine, have criticized it.
