According to a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), Robert Downey Jr confirmed that ‘Avengers: Secret Wars', the sixth installment of Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ franchise, will be his final movie, and he is officially set to retire.

The claim has spread on multiple social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, with the original post garnering more than a million views as of this writing.

The comment sections indicate disappointment among fans, suggesting that many believe the claim to be real, while a few others remain skeptical and question the claim’s authenticity.

Fact Check: The claim originated from a satirical account

The claim, however, is false, as there is no official confirmation from the actor, celebrated for his role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). There are no official statements, press releases, or social media posts from the actor that support the claim.

The post credits Deadline as the source of the claim; however, as of this writing, the magazine has published no such reports.

A search on Google for the claim yielded no relevant reports by prominent news or entertainment media outlets, which, if true, would have been widely covered.

Additionally, the claim originated from an X account called ‘Chaos Crave,’ which describes itself in the bio as an "unofficial, parody, satirical news account."

A fact check by Grok AI confirmed, “False. The post from the satirical parody account Chaos Crave incorrectly claims Robert Downey Jr. is retiring after Avengers: Secret Wars."

"In reality, RDJ is starring as Doctor Doom in both Avengers: Doomsday (Dec 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (Dec 2027), with recent reports highlighting a major payday for the films and no retirement announcement. No Deadline article supports the claim.”

The claim surfaced as the Oscar-winning actor is back, but this time as Marvel's biggest villain, Doctor Doom. Following Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 25, the actor admitted it feels "weird" to play Doom after spending years as Iron Man.

Reflecting on the role, Downey admitted, "It was really weird to be on the other side of the bad-guy mask because it’s such an isolated vibe. I’m seeing them all socializing and stuff, and I am the enemy."
