WASHINGTON, DC: A claim that President Donald Trump announced a RICO investigation into billionaire George Soros and his network has been circulating online.

The post accuses Soros and his network of funding, training, and radicalizing young people to promote terrorism and extremism. Did Trump announce a new investigation into Soros? Let's fact-check the claim.

Claim: Trump announced a RICO investigation into George Soros

The rumor originated from an X user who claimed that Trump had recently announced a RICO investigation into George Soros

The post stated, “President Trump has announced that George Soros and his entire network will be investigated under RICO charges.” It also claimed, “He claims Soros is behind the funding, training, and radicalization of young people, fueling terror and extremism.”

The claim gained attention amid the Trump administration's broader efforts to investigate left-leaning nonprofit organizations and their funding.

In October 2025, Reuters reported that the administration planned to use agencies such as the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Justice Department, IRS, and Treasury Department to investigate groups accused of supporting political violence.

The reported effort included the Open Society Foundations, which Soros funds, and considered tools such as RICO investigations and reviews of tax-exempt status.

The rumor also follows Trump's August 2025 call for RICO charges against Soros and his son, Alex Soros, over their alleged support for violent protests. Trump did not provide evidence to support those allegations.

These earlier statements and reports about possible investigations may explain why the claim resurfaced.

Fact Check: The claim is misleading

The claim that President Donald Trump recently announced a RICO investigation into George Soros and his entire network is misleading.

On August 27, 2025, Trump posted on Truth Social that Soros and his son, Alex Soros, “should be charged with RICO” over their alleged support for violent protests across the United States.

He also accused them of causing damage and warned that his administration was watching them. However, there is no evidence of a new announcement in October 2026 that matches the wording of the viral post. The post, which circulated on October 23, presents Trump's 2025 statement as breaking news.

Trump's earlier remarks focused on allegations that Soros and his associates supported violent protests. However, the viral post goes further by claiming that Soros funded, trained, and radicalized young people to promote terrorism and extremism. Trump's public statement does not establish these additional allegations as facts.

The Open Society Foundations has also denied accusations that it funds or supports violent protests, describing them as false and saying its work focuses on human rights, justice and democratic principles.
