Fact Check: Did Trump call for JD Vance's resignation for changing his name thrice?
WASHINGTON, DC: A rumor is circulating on social media platforms claiming to show a post by President Donald Trump calling for Vice President JD Vance's resignation over changing his name three times and accusing him of fraud. The claim has sparked concern and speculation among online users, prompting a fact-check.
Claim: Donald Trump called for JD Vance's resignation

The rumor spread as a screenshot claiming to show a post by Trump on his official Truth Social handle.
The purported post read, “It was just revealed that JD Vance's name is not JD Vance, the one he used to get elected and sworn in as Vice President, but rather, he was born JAMES DONALD BOWMAN!"
"He then went by JAMES DAVID HAMEL before changing his name AGAIN to JAMES DAVID VANCE! THREE DIFFERENT NAMES! Because he was born under an entirely different name, I assume he must IMMEDIATELY resign as Vice President!"
"Please inform Speaker of the House James Michael Johnson that the Republican Party has just conceded the Vice Presidency! James Donald Bowman, also known as James David Hamel, also known as JD Vance, must explain this tremendous NAME FRAUD! Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The screenshot has garnered millions of views, with many believing it's an authentic post by Trump, while others call it fake.
Fact Check: Donald Trump made no such post

However, the claim is false. No such post exists on Trump’s official Truth Social. A search of his Truth Social account and the X commentary accounts that archive his social media posts yielded no results that match the text in the screenshot.
Similar searches on his other social media handles, such as Facebook and X, also returned no results.
If Trump really made such a post or called for Vance resignation over a name change, it would have been widely covered by prominent news media outlets, making headlines, but a Google search for the claim yielded no credible news results.

Moreover, the fake post was likely intended as satire and resembles Trump’s post attacking Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar, where he accused her of fraud for changing her name three times, amid the alleged immigration fraud probes against her.
This came after a federal court filing identified the Minnesota lawmaker as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”
The fake screenshot even has a label below stating ‘AI,’ indicating that it was generated using Artificial Intelligence.
