Fact Check: Did Trump announce renaming Artificial Intelligence to 'American Intelligence'?
WASHINGTON, DC: As President Donald Trump floated the idea of renaming Artificial Intelligence (AI) and asked people to help him pick a new name, a rumor began circulating on social media claiming that he had renamed it to 'American Intelligence.'
The claim triggered mockery and speculation online, with social media users reacting to the post and questioning whether Trump had actually announced the name change.
Claim: Donald Trump renamed Artificial Intelligence to 'American Intelligence'
As Artificial Intelligence appeared to take center stage in the political spectrum, a viral post on X claimed that Trump had reportedly renamed AI to “American Intelligence.'
The claim drew mixed reactions from online users, with many mocking and criticizing the President, indicating that they believed the claim to be true.
Meanwhile, a few others appeared to remain skeptical and questioned the claim's authenticity.
Fact Check: The 'American Intelligence' claim originated from a parody account
Although Trump laid out three alternative names to replace AI, including 'Superior Intelligence,' 'Extreme Intelligence,' and 'Supreme Intelligence,' there were no reports of him mentioning 'American Intelligence.'
If Trump had really made such an announcement, prominent news and entertainment media outlets would have widely covered it. However, a search for the claim yielded no such news reports.
Moreover, the post originated from an X account called 'Chaos Crave,' which describes itself in its bio as 'satirical news.' Hence, the post was intended as satire and was made for the sake of engagement.
The claim surfaced after Trump wrote on his Truth Social account, “Many people think that the words ‘Artificial Intelligence’ are inaccurate, and very ineloquent, relative to AI, or Artificial Intelligence."
"A far more elegant and accurate description of this new phenomenon would be Superior Intelligence (SI) or, Extreme Intelligence (EI) or, Supreme Intelligence (SI),” he added.
Trump also urged people to participate in the poll to suggest what could be the best replacement for the word Artificial Intelligence.
Trump's geographic name changes amid Canada tensions
The claim resembled the geographic name changes associated with the Trump administration amid ongoing tensions with Canada over increased tariffs, including an executive order directing the federal government to use 'Gulf of America' instead of the Gulf of Mexico and renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America.'
“As you know, we took something called the Gulf of Mexico, we changed it, and now it's very routinely the Gulf of America,” Trump said.
The President also suggested renaming the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
