WASHINGTON, DC: A viral X post has sparked debate over a controversial statement attributed to US President Donald Trump about Iran. The post claims Trump warned that the United States could lose its future as a country if he failed to take decisive action against Tehran.

The alleged remark has drawn attention amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, ongoing military developments, and growing concerns about a wider conflict in the Middle East.

Claim: Trump said Iran could destroy the US if he failed to stop it

An X user, @SpencerHakimian, shared a statement attributed to Trump, claiming that the US must take decisive action against Iran to prevent the country from facing a serious threat.

The post quoted Trump as saying, “If I don’t handle Iran, you won’t have a country anymore.” The statement attracted mixed reactions, with several users criticizing Trump amid ongoing US-Iran negotiations and rising military tensions.

The post comes after Trump's remarks on November 1 about the remaining military targets in Iran. Trump said the US had already weakened much of Iran's military and nuclear capabilities but still needed to deal with one or two remaining sites.

He specifically mentioned the suspected underground facility at Pickaxe Mountain and said the US could strike it “in 10 minutes.”

Trump has presented further action against Iran as necessary to prevent a greater threat. However, he has indicated that the US would not launch major new strikes before the midterm elections.

Reports also suggest that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pushed for quicker military action, while Trump has favored allowing negotiations with Iran to continue.

The US-Israel conflict with Iran, which began in February 2026, remains a major political issue. It has also raised concerns among American voters about rising energy prices, national security, and the country's foreign policy.

Fact Check: The claim is unverified

The claim remains unverified. No credible source, including official transcripts, videos, Truth Social posts, interviews, or major news reports, confirms that President Donald Trump made this exact statement.

However, Trump has repeatedly used strong language when discussing Iran in 2026. He has warned that Iran obtaining nuclear weapons could threaten Israel and the wider Middle East, with serious consequences for global security.

Trump has also made direct threats against Iranian leaders. In one statement, he warned, “You close it [the Strait of Hormuz], and you won’t have a country.” He has made similar remarks suggesting that Iran could face severe consequences if it escalates the conflict.

Trump has also claimed that his actions have prevented serious threats and helped avoid a wider crisis in the region.

Although these statements carry a similar message about the dangers of failing to confront Iran, they do not match the exact words shared in the viral X post.

The post suggests that Trump warned Americans they could lose their country unless he personally dealt with Iran. However, no reliable evidence confirms that he made this specific remark.
