Fact Check: Did Trump slam Hunter Biden over his cryptocurrency launch?
WASHINGTON, DC: A social media post claims that President Donald Trump slammed former President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, about the launch of his cryptocurrency. The claim has sparked mockery and scrutiny of the president, with many questioning its authenticity, prompting a fact-check.
Claim: Donald Trump posts against Hunter Biden's crypto launch
The rumor surfaced as a screenshot purportedly showing a post by the president on his official Truth Social handle.
The alleged post read, “THIS IS YOUR PRESIDENT SPEAKING! This morning, my handsome (and single) son Barron woke me up upset. He let me know that CRACKHEAD HUNTER 'H***IN FIEND' BIDEN is launching a cryptocurrency token."
"Disgusting. Doesn't he know that there are only two true cryptos? TRUMP Token and Bitcoin??? I am urging FBI Director Kash 'Kriminal Hunter' Patel to launch a full investigation into this - likely launched by the Biden family morons and the adderall addicted crypto kids."
"Only real Americans own Trump token. That's why I am known as DONALD J SATOSHI TRUMP. Maybe we can make it illegal for anyone to own his coin; odds are it is going to go to $0 faster than the economy of Europe. Happy Labor Day!”
The post has garnered one million views as of this writing, with many appearing to believe it is a real post by Trump, while others expressed skepticism and called for a fact-check.
Fact Check: Donald Trump made no such post
The screenshot, however, is fake, as Trump has made no such post slamming Hunter Biden’s launch of a crypto meme coin.
A search on Trump’s Truth Social handle and other commentary accounts that archive his social media posts confirmed that no such post exists. There are also no such posts on any of his other social media handles, such as Facebook and X.
Additional Google searches to check whether he made the post and then deleted it also yielded no results, which, if true, would not go unnoticed by credible news outlets.
Hunter Biden launches $LAPTOP memecoin
The claim surfaced as Hunter Biden is launching his own cryptocurrency, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal published on Monday, September 7.
Hunter’s memecoin will be called $LAPTOP, referring to his infamous laptop that became a political controversy.
According to the report, Hunter and his co-founders will hold 30% of the memecoin’s supply, and another 20% will be sent to the crypto wallets of his Substack subscribers.
