HOVEYZEH, IRAN: Several social media posts claimed that US forces struck wheat storage silos in Hoveyzeh and Dasht-e Azadegan counties in Iran's Khuzestan province, calling it the first attack on food infrastructure during the conflict.

The claim surfaced amid ongoing military exchanges over the Strait of Hormuz and growing concerns about damage to civilian infrastructure.

Claim: US forces struck a civilian wheat storage facility in Hoveyzeh

Although Iranian state media first reported the claim that US forces struck a wheat storage silo, several online outlets and social media accounts later amplified it, fueling speculation and leading many users to believe the allegation.

One X user wrote, "A U.S. strike has reportedly hit a wheat storage silo overnight in Hoveizeh County, in Iran's western Khuzestan province. No casualties were reported. It looks like the first U.S. strike on Iranian food storage of the war, though not the first to hit agricultural targets."

The post further claimed, "Just 2 nights earlier, a U.S. projectile struck an agricultural water-pumping station in Mahshahr, also in Khuzestan, killing the complex's guard and wounding 4. The silo was one of several sites hit across the province in the latest wave."

Another X account, Hormuz Letter, posted, "The US has struck a wheat storage silo in Hoveizeh County and a silo location in Dasht Azadegan County, southwestern Iran, an hour ago, per the Deputy Governor of Khuzestan Province. This is the first US strike on the Iranian food supply infrastructure of the war."

Fact Check: False< US forces targeted military sites

The claim is false. Although several social media posts alleged that US forces struck wheat storage silos in Iran's Khuzestan province, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its latest operations targeted Iranian military infrastructure, not civilian food facilities.

According to CENTCOM, US forces launched a new wave of strikes on July 14 as part of an effort to weaken Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it targeted military sites in Bandar Abbas, Khormuj, Ahvaz, Qeshm, Tunb, Bushehr, and Kuh-e Stak, including command centers, air defense systems, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal radar installations. CENTCOM did not mention any wheat storage silos or other food infrastructure among its targets.

In its statement on X, CENTCOM said, "On July 14, U.S. forces hit Iranian military targets in Bandar Abbas, Khormuj, Ahvaz, Qeshm, Tunb, Bushehr, and Kuh-e Stak to degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz."

It added, "Meanwhile, Iran has targeted innocent civilians transiting the strait and in neighboring Gulf countries."

According to official information released by the US military, there is no evidence that American forces targeted wheat storage facilities in Hoveyzeh or Dasht-e Azadegan during the latest round of strikes.
