NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Following the release of a new trove of documents related to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein by the Justice Department on Friday, January 30, a photo seemingly showing a baby Zohran Mamdani with his mother, Mira Nair, alongside Epstein started circulating on social media.

The image has sparked speculations about its authenticity. Let us fact-check it.

Claim: Image supposedly shows baby Zohran Mamdani, his mom Mira Nair, and Jeffrey Epstein

The viral photograph allegedly shows acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair holding baby Zohran Mamdani in her arms alongside Jeffrey Epstein and former President Bill Clinton.

The image began circulating after Nair's name came up in the Epstein files in the context of her attending an after-party for a film at Ghislaine Maxwell's place, where Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Clinton were also allegedly present.

The image garnered a range of reactions, with many accusing Mamdani of being a nepo-baby and some questioning the credibility of his political rise.

Fact Check: The image is AI-generated

However, the viral photo is not authentic and is AI-generated.

The email about Nair attending the party is from 2009, meaning that Mamdani, who was born in 1991, was 18 at the time and not an infant, as shown in the viral image.

The image first surfaced on an X(formerly Twitter) account called DFF, who state they make "high-quality AI videos and memes."

The account also highlights that it's a parody account that makes such claims for engagement purposes.

The image was fact-checked by X community notes, too, which said, “The image is AI-generated and depicts a nonexistent event. Zohran Mamdani was born in 1991 to Mira Nair; while she attended a 2009 afterparty with Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos, he was 18 years old at the time.”

The Justice Department on Friday released over three million pages of documents, including 2,000 videos and 1,80,000 images, on convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein.

An email dated October 21, 2009, sent by publicist Peggy Siegel to Epstein, also surfaced in documents, which gives an insight into the afterparty attended by Nair.

"Just left Ghislaine's townhouse...after party for film. Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos were there... Jean Pigoni, director Mira Nair....etc," the email read.

It described the reaction of guests to Nair's film as "tepid.”

"Film received tepid reaction although women like it much more...Hillary Swank and Gen: at stupid party in Bloomingdales cheap sportwear department....very weird. Studio went for free party from store and windows for a month....Going to be in Wall Street 2 tomorrow ....more to come. xoxo Peg," the email further stated.
