WASHINGTON, DC: A photo showing President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos together at a White House state dinner has gone viral on social media.

The image has drawn attention as users shared and discussed the gathering involving the two leaders and prominent tech billionaires. Questions have since emerged about whether the photo accurately shows the guests at the dinner.

Claim: An image showed Trump, Xi, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos at White House dinner

An X post from a Trump and Melania supporter highlighted the White House state dinner honoring Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The post praised the gathering of political and business leaders and highlighted Elon Musk among the guests as an example of leadership, innovation and vision.

Musk attended the dinner and sat at the head table with Trump, Xi, First Lady Melania Trump, and other technology executives, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Apple CEO Tim Cook.

The post shared a photo with the caption, “A remarkable evening at the White House. Trump and Melania welcome an extraordinary gathering of leaders shaping the future, with Elon Musk among the distinguished guests. A night where leadership, innovation, and vision meet.”

The state dinner took place on September 24, 2026, during Xi’s first visit to Washington in more than a decade and his second summit with Trump this year.

The event featured military honors, a state dinner, a bald eagle gift, and panda diplomacy. The meeting produced limited concrete results, with the two sides mainly extending a trade truce.

Fact Check: False; the image is AI-generated

The image is AI-generated. The post combines accurate details about the event with a fabricated image.

Fact-checkers who reviewed the same post found that the attached photo was explicitly labeled as “Made with Grok Imagine,” confirming that it does not show the actual event.

In the real dinner, Melania Trump wore a white Saint Laurent blouse with an oversized bow, black Dolce & Gabbana high-waisted brocade pants, and a black silk cummerbund.

Her pants-based, menswear-inspired outfit differed from the traditional gowns often worn at state dinners.

The AI-generated image instead shows her wearing a black off-shoulder dress. Peng Liyuan wore a red gown at the actual dinner.

The AI image also changes other details, including the seating arrangement, table settings, floral decorations, and the placement of some guests.

For example, the image shows Jeff Bezos at the head table, which does not match official and press photos from the event.

The post correctly describes the state dinner and Musk's attendance. However, the image does not accurately represent the event.

It uses AI-generated details that change the clothing, seating, and other visual elements from the actual dinner. Community notes and independent fact-checks, including one that reviewed this specific post, have also identified the image as AI-generated.
