WASHINGTON, DC: The US-Iran conflict, which escalated in late February 2026 after US-Israel strikes on Iranian targets, has no signs of a ceasefire yet. The risk of a bigger war grew on Saturday, March 28, as Yemen’s Houthis launched their first attacks on Israel, while additional US forces reached West Asia.

Amid this, a video featuring President Donald Trump circulated online claiming that he said, "Iran attacked from 17 directions". But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: Iran attacked US from 17 directions amid the ongoing war

The viral clip shows Donald Trump speaking from a podium, saying, "We knew there was a problem when we noticed at one o’clock in the morning every 32 seconds another airplane, a very fast plane, was coming off the deck of an aircraft carrier."

He added, "That’s actually the biggest aircraft carrier in the world, and every 32 seconds, boom, boom, boom. And it was one o’clock in the morning. So, we said, okay, I think we’re in trouble."

"But they were ready for us, Johnny. And we were ready. He said we were ready. And then they hit us, and they came from 17 different angles. They were here, they were there… we ran for our lives. It was over. And uh, it was over," the POTUS allegedly said in the viral clip.

The video circulated on social media platforms, such as X and Facebook. An X user shared the clip and wrote, "Trump on USS Gerald R. Ford: 'Iran attacked from 17 directions. We fled to save our lives. It was all over.'"

Fact Check: False, viral clip is misleading

The claim that President Trump made the statement during the ongoing US-Iran war is false and misleading, as a video of Trump talking about the Venezuela Operation was linked to the Iran-US war.

Interestingly, the original video was published on YouTube by NBC News on Saturday and shows the POTUS speaking at the Saudi investment conference in Florida.

The YouTube video is more than an hour long. At the 18-minute mark, Trump could be heard saying, "Look at what happened in Venezuela. They had other equipment, not ours. They made the mistake of using other equipment. Didn’t work too well. And uh Venezuela was, you know, lot more powerful, but it’s not powerful anymore."

Meanwhile, Trump continued discussing how the US handled the Venezuela operation, and at the 19-minute mark, the President said, "We knew there was a problem when we noticed at one o’clock in the morning every 32 seconds another airplane, a very fast plane, was coming off the deck of an aircraft carrier."

He added, "That's actually the biggest aircraft carrier in the world, and every 32 seconds, boom, boom, boom. And it was one o’clock in the morning. So we said, okay, I think we’re in trouble. But they were ready for us, Johnny. And we were ready. He said we were ready. And then they hit us, and they came from 17 different angles. They were here, they were there, they.. we ran for our lives. It was over. And uh, it was over.”

A part of this original video was clipped and circulated online, falsely claiming Donald Trump made the statement in the context of the ongoing war with Iran.
