Fact Check: Is Elon Musk going to sue 'The View' co-host Whoopi Goldberg for speaking negatively of him?
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Tech billionaire Elon Musk does not see eye to eye with comedian Whoopi Goldberg on a host of issues.
The member of President-elect Donald Trump's new administration is set to oversee government efficiency and has been one of the most powerful and influential supporters of the MAGA movement in the runup to the 2024 election.
Goldberg, on the other hand, has been one of the staunchest critics of MAGA on network television, as she and her co-hosts on the daytime talk show 'The View' backed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the race.
With the election result sealing the return of Trump to the White House, rumors have been floating on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that its CEO, Elon Musk, is planning to sue Goldberg to prevent her from speaking negatively about him. However, a rumor was all that it turned out to be, claimed Distractify.

Elon Musk is not suing Whoopi Goldberg
The rumor of Elon Musk resorting to lawfare in his disagreement with Whoopi Goldberg was debunked by The Poynter Institute's PolitiFacts back on May 25.
According to the publication, the rumor stemmed from a now-deleted post on Facebook that claimed Musk was prepared to sue Goldberg for $60 million for 'lying about him' with her co-hosts on 'The View'.
A 2023 story on SpaceXMania about Musk's alleged plans to sue Goldberg was also highlighted in the report, which was noticeably marked satire on the host website.
Is Elon Musk acquiring 'The View'?
Another report from May claimed that the entrepreneur, who is worth $309 billion, had bought 'The View' from ABC, as he was tired of seeing "the same tired discussions over and over again."
Sources revealed Musk said at the time, "I’ve been watching 'The View' for years, and it feels like the same tired discussions over and over again. I’ve had enough of it, and I believe it’s time for a fresh approach to daytime talk shows.”
However, that rumor turned out to be blatantly untrue as well. The show continued to be owned by the ABC, and the network has never demonstrated any intention of letting go. Even Musk himself never revealed if he had ever been part of a discussion about taking over the network.
