PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Lauren Boebert won a third term in Congress on November 5 after moving to the state's fourth district and defeating Jeff Hurd. She moved to the new district midway through her term to avoid what would have been a tough reelection bid in her old district.

Interestingly, a claim has gone viral on social media stating President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Lauren Boebert as the new Secretary of Education. Is there any truth to this? Let's find out below.

Claim: Donald Trump appoints Lauren Boebert as Secretary of Education

An X user @ChrisDJackson posted an alleged statement from Trump that praised Lauren Boebert’s background and promised drastic reforms. The lengthy post began, "I am thrilled to announce that the incredible Lauren Boebert will be taking the reins of the Former Department of Education."

The statement continued, "Lauren, a true American Patriot, has an unparalleled understanding of what real education should look like—not from some ivory tower, but from the heart of this great nation."

It further added, "She worked her way up, got her GED, and learned more about real life and the needs of American families than any bureaucrat ever could. Her journey is exactly what we need to bring REAL reform to our broken education system!"

The statement also stated, "With Lauren as Secretary, we’re going to take a sledgehammer to the waste, fraud, and abuse that have plagued this bloated, overreaching department for far too long. No more indoctrination."

It concluded, "No more wasteful spending. No more Washington elites telling parents how to raise their kids! Together, we’re going to make education in America GREAT again. And I have zero doubt—Lauren Boebert will get the job done!"

The post also had a picture of Trump and Boebert together.

False: The viral social media post is fabricated

The claim made in the viral social media post is entirely fabricated as the last line of the post reads, "If you read this far, I'm sure you are like me and couldn't tell if this was real at first or not" along with a wink emoji.

Moreover, there has been no announcement by Donald Trump or his office regarding the appointment of Lauren Boebert as the new Secretary of Education.

Since Trump won the election earlier in November, several fake posts have made rounds across social media claiming names of different personalities getting hired by the President-elect for different roles.

Another satirical post on X claimed that Donald Trump nominated Amber Rose for Secretary of Education which was completely false as the social media platform flagged it as a satire.

Lauren Boebert controversies over the years

Lauen Boebert has always been surrounded by controversies throughout her career. There have been multiple instances when Boebert has been on the news for not the right reasons.

In May 2024, Boebert accused a New York judge in the case against Donald Trump of being "corrupt" and made other false statements about the hush-money coverup trial, according to Axios.

She was also removed from the Buell Theatre on September 10, 2023, for vaping, recording, and causing a disturbance during a performance of the musical 'Beetlejuice'. A surveillance video also showed her and her date touching each other inappropriately at the show.

Boebert initially said she was asked to leave for singing too loud, but an incident report later showed complaints about vaping and being disruptive. She apologized for her behavior and said she "simply fell short of my values".

She also heckled President Joe Biden with repeated interruptions during the State of the Union address on March 1, 2022, and shouted "build the wall" and interjected when Biden was talking about battlefield conditions that contribute to veterans getting cancer, per the outlet.
