NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A viral social media post claiming that rapper Nicki Minaj is stepping away from her music career to focus on a future in politics has triggered widespread speculation online. The claim began circulating after the rapper recently praised President Donald Trump, leading many users to question whether Minaj is preparing for a major career shift.

However, a closer look reveals that the claim did not originate from any official statement made by the artist. Here is what we found.

Claim: Nicki Minaj is quitting music to pursue politics

The claim surfaced on X on February 14 through a post that stated, “Nicki Minaj announces she is stepping away from music to focus on a future in politics: ‘We seriously need to Make America Great Again.’”

The post also referenced Minaj calling herself the president’s “number one fan,” which fueled further speculation about her political ambitions.

The viral post, which has racked up more than one million views along with thousands of likes and shares, led many users in the comments section to believe the claim was legitimate.

Fact Check: Claim originated from a parody account

The claim is false.

The post originated from Hoops Crave, a well-known parody account that regularly shares fabricated or satirical content for engagement. The account’s bio clearly states that it is a parody and is not affiliated with Pop Crave.

A Google search for relevant keywords produced no credible reports confirming that Minaj has announced plans to leave music or run for office. Additionally, no major news outlet has reported such a development.

In November 2025, Minaj indicated that she was still planning to release a new album in March 2026 and even teased the possibility of a second album later in the same year. These statements suggest she remains actively focused on her music career.

A fact-check conducted by Grok, X’s AI assistant, also debunked the rumor, noting that the claim originated from a parody account and that there is no evidence supporting the idea that Minaj intends to retire from music for politics. The assistant added that Minaj has continued to post about music and various causes online.

Nicki Minaj’s recent political comments explained

WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 28: Musician Nicki Minaj joins U.S. President Donald Trump on stage during the Treasury Department's Trump Accounts Summit at Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium on January 28, 2026 in Washington, DC.

While the claim itself is false, Minaj has recently drawn attention for expressing views that signal a political shift.

The rapper has publicly supported voter ID laws and praised President Trump, positions that contrast with some of her past criticisms of him during his first term.

At a recent Trump-related event, Minaj reportedly referred to herself as “probably the president’s number one fan,” a remark that quickly circulated across social media and sparked mixed reactions.

However, expressing political opinions does not equate to abandoning a music career or formally entering politics.

At this time, there is no evidence that Nicki Minaj has announced plans to step away from music or pursue a political career.
