NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Nicki Minaj’s fan base is reacting strongly after the rapper signaled a political shift toward the right and expressed support for President Donald Trump, with some supporters now saying they plan to change their own political affiliation.

Minaj’s recent comments backing voter ID laws and praising Trump have fueled intense debate across social media. Several fans claim her stance directly influenced their decision to leave the Democratic Party and align with Republicans.

At a recent Trump event, Minaj said she was “probably the president’s number one fan,” a remark that quickly circulated online and sparked both praise and criticism.

Nicki Minaj’s support for Trump fuels backlash and praise

Minaj has voiced approval of voter ID laws and has publicly complimented Trump, positions that stand in contrast to comments she made during his first term, when she criticized him multiple times.

Her shift has surprised many longtime followers, with some applauding her for speaking freely and others accusing her of abandoning progressive values.

Online discussions around Minaj often trend within hours of her political comments, underscoring her continued influence beyond music.

Rapper’s political ties continue to grow

In November 2025, Minaj appeared at the United Nations in support of the Trump administration, speaking about the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. The following month, she sat for an interview with Erika Kirk, widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and chairwoman of Turning Point USA.

Since Trump began his second term, Minaj has appeared more openly supportive of him. Photos from a recent White House visit showed the two laughing and chatting, images that quickly spread across social media and made headlines.
