LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Following the breakout success of 'Obsession,' one of 2026's biggest horror hits, Michael Johnston has remained in the spotlight as fans speculate about his next project.

A new social media post claims that the actor is in talks for a mystery biopic role and has teased fans to guess the subject. But is the viral claim true? Let's fact-check it.

Claim: Michael Johnston is in talks to play the lead in a mystery biopic

The rumor originated from the X account @DailyNoud, which claimed that Michael Johnston was in talks to play the lead in an upcoming mystery biopic.

The post quoted Johnston as saying, "I'm not gonna say who it is yet, but you can take your guesses," and included photos of the actor in a suit, prompting widespread speculation about the identity of the rumored subject.

Many users quickly suggested that the alleged biopic could be about conservative activist Charlie Kirk, pointing to what they believed were similarities between Johnston's appearance in the photos and Kirk's public image. Others joked that Johnston could portray several conservative political figures because of the perceived resemblance.

The post rapidly gained traction, amassing more than 10.1 million views and over 2,000 comments within hours. One user wrote, "I want to see a biopic where he plays Nick, Charlie, and Ben Shapiro, nutty professor style." Another commented, "It's gonna be Charlie Kirk."

Fact Check: False, no credible report in mainstream media

The claim is false. No credible news outlet, entertainment trade publication, or official source has reported that Michael Johnston is in talks to star in a mystery biopic. The rumor originated from @DailyNoud, a self-described parody account whose bio states that it posts fictional stories for viral engagement.

The viral post follows the account's established pattern of publishing fabricated entertainment news mixed with satire.

The rumor gained traction as Johnston's profile continues to rise following his breakout performance in the low-budget horror film 'Obsession,' which became one of 2026's biggest box-office surprises by grossing more than $220 million worldwide.

However, reputable industry outlets such as Variety and The Hollywood Reporter have not reported any casting discussions involving Johnston and a mystery biopic.

Michael Johnston has recently spoken about the kinds of roles he hopes to pursue next. During an appearance on the 'I've Never Said This Before' podcast, he said he would like to star in a meaningful queer-centered story rather than focusing on a mystery biopic.

"My whole thing has been that what the character's sexuality is doesn't matter to me," he said. "It's just another part of who they are, and that's how I am. It's just a part of who I am."

He added that growing up in the Bible Belt shaped his experiences and expressed interest in "playing a really intentional queer role" in a story that is meaningful.
