Fact Check: Is outgoing Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene replacing Whoopi Goldberg on 'The View'?
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Whoopi Goldberg has been off 'The View' for a little over a week, and fans of the show are already speculating whether she's being replaced by an outgoing GOP congresswoman.
Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene announced she’s leaving Congress in January, and some online sleuths have convinced themselves she’s sliding into a co-host seat on the ABC show. But is there any truth to the claim? Let’s find out.
Claim: Marjorie Taylor Greene to join 'The View'
Rumors that Marjorie Taylor Greene is leaving Congress to join 'The View' began circulating shortly after she announced her resignation.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene will now work as a private citizen on a grassroots level to get hired as a co-host on 'The View,” one declared on X.
Someone else wrote, “MTG resigns to start her new career on 'The View' starting in January,” while another warned, “Don’t be shocked if she’s a full-time anti-Trump host/commentator within a few months.”

Not surprising to see MTG resign. She’s barely accomplished anything in Congress. The last few months were all about preparing the turn after she realized she couldn’t run for Senate.

Fact Check: False, no evidence to back the viral claim
Joy Behar, who’s been part of 'The View' since 1997, took a moment on the show to address both Goldberg’s absence and the MTG speculation. Greene may be exiting Congress, but she’s not packing her bags for ABC Studios.
While Goldberg wasn’t on the latest episode, Behar assured everyone, “Don’t worry, she’s not being replaced by Marjorie Taylor Greene,” referring to a “rumor” she spotted after the congresswoman’s resignation announcement, Decider reported.
Behar revealed that Goldberg has been in Italy filming a soap opera and hasn’t appeared on the show since Thursday, November 13. The co-host confirmed she’ll be back after Thanksgiving break, precisely on Monday, December 1. Greene, meanwhile, isn’t joining the cast. The speculation probably stems from her first-time guest appearance back on November 4.
Marjorie Taylor Greene defends views and criticizes Congress on 'The View'
During her hotly anticipated visit, Greene aired frustrations over the then-ongoing government shutdown. “The government has failed all of us and it purely disgusts me,” she said at the time, criticizing House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate leadership for not holding sessions to resolve the issue.
She also spoke about her evolving stance on free speech and foreign policy, especially when it comes to her past criticism of Israel. “I would say that tide has completely changed. I think many Americans today see the difference as, you can love Jewish Americans, you can love Jewish people and not be critical of people at all," she explained. "I have the right to criticize a foreign government, and I can criticize as many of them as I want.”
Behar quipped, “Maybe you should become a Democrat, Marjorie.” Greene laughed and replied, “No, I’m not a Democrat... I’ll say this: I think both parties have failed.” She added, “For me, I am unapologetically America first and I’ll do anything I can to work hard to save our country,” while insisting “nothing has changed about me.”
She also pushed for transparency around the Jeffrey Epstein files. “It seems like very rich and powerful men are being protected. I will sign anybody’s resolution, and I’ll get on board with anyone’s push to release those files. Because this is about women, especially when they were teenagers, who were victims of r**e and s**ual abuse by Jeffrey Epstein," she said.
When asked whether President Trump “may not love you back right now,” Greene shrugged it off with, “That’s okay. I mean, Donald Trump, he usually yells at everybody, so we are all used to it.”
During her appearance, Greene also showered compliments on the panel’s tone. “I think that all of us right here are doing a great job of exchanging our ideas and things that we believe in," she said. "I didn’t want to do [fight] today, because I believe that people with powerful voices, like myself and like you, and especially women-to-women, we need to pave a new path in this country.”
She closed her appearance with a more reflective note. “Our beautiful country, our red, white and blue flag is just being ripped to shreds, and I think it takes women of maturity to sew it back together. I think we need more of that in America. I really do," Greene concluded.
