WASHINGTON, DC: A photo allegedly taken during President Donald Trump's June 3 Oval Office press conference has gone viral on social media, with users claiming it shows CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins asleep during the event.

The image quickly sparked memes, reactions, and heated debate online, with supporters and critics weighing in on media conduct and attentiveness during White House appearances.

But does the photo actually show Collins sleeping during Trump's press conference? Here's what the facts reveal.

Claim: Kaitlan Collins falls asleep during Trump's press briefing

An X user shared a viral post claiming, "OMG KAITLAN COLLINS FALLS ASLEEP IN OVAL OFFICE DURING PRESIDENT TRUMP PRESS CONFERENCE. SHE IS NOT WELL. WHAT IS GOING ON?" The post, shared by a pro-Trump account, sarcastically questioned Collins' health and quickly gained attention online.

The claim emerged shortly after President Trump held a press availability in the Oval Office, where he sharply criticized CNN and its chief White House correspondent, Kaitlan Collins. During the exchange, Trump called CNN a "very corrupt organization" and described Collins as a "corrupt reporter."

He also remarked that she "never smiles" despite being a "young beautiful woman" and claimed he saw "hatred" in her eyes because of his policies. The comments marked another chapter in the long-running tensions between Trump and CNN.

As one of CNN's most prominent White House correspondents, Collins has frequently clashed with Trump, making the confrontation a major talking point. The viral photo gained additional traction because it appeared to emerge immediately after Trump's public criticism of her.

The image also resonated with Trump's supporters because it flipped a familiar political narrative. In recent years, Democrats and Trump critics have often highlighted moments in which Trump appeared tired or inattentive during public events.

By portraying Collins as the one falling asleep, the meme reversed that criticism and fueled partisan debate across social media.

Fact Check: False, No evidence to back the viral claim

The claim is false and misleading. Kaitlan Collins did not fall asleep during President Donald Trump's June 3, 2026, Oval Office press availability.

While the viral image is a genuine photo from the event, it has been taken out of context.

The picture captures a single moment in which Collins appears to have her eyes closed or to be looking downward, possibly at notes or a phone. Such moments are common during lengthy press events, where attendees may blink, glance down, or briefly rest their eyes.

The full video of the event provides no evidence that Collins was sleeping. Footage and news reports show that she remained attentive throughout the press availability.

During the event, Trump criticized Collins and CNN while responding to another reporter's question, before Collins had even spoken. She remained present and engaged and later reported on the exchange herself. No credible video, eyewitness account, or news report suggests that she nodded off, appeared unresponsive, or fell asleep.

The post's suggestion that Collins was "not well" is unsupported. There have been no reports of any health issue, medical incident, or concern involving Collins related to the event. The phrase appears to be a sarcastic remark commonly used in partisan social media posts.

The claim gained traction because it followed a highly publicized exchange between Trump and Collins. During the Oval Office appearance, Trump criticized Collins personally, commenting on her demeanor, accusing her of hostility toward his policies, and again attacking CNN as a news organization.

The remarks reflected the long-running tensions between Trump and Collins. Afterward, Collins noted that Trump had targeted her even though she had not yet asked a question during the press event.
