According to multiple posts on X, the conservative actor revealed that he was unexpectedly asked to present an award to De Niro, but left the stage after requesting a switch and finding no one available to replace him, prompting organizers to scrap the segment.
“They didn’t tell me what I’d be presenting or to whom until I got there,” Quaid allegedly told Greg Gutfeld. “When I found out, I was nice. I asked them to switch me with someone. They said nobody else was available, so I left.”
The widely circulated posts shared by conservatives praised Quaid’s stand against De Niro, suggesting they believe the claim to be true, while a few others questioned the claim and called for verification.

Quaid is known for his conservative political stance and has been a critic of the political left. Although he doesn't describe himself as a Republican, he stated that, “I’m a common-sense independent, myself.”
“I’m just for common sense; that's really what I am,” said Quaid.
He even described President Donald Trump as “very personable, incredibly funny, a good listener and surprisingly approachable person.”
“Trump is surprisingly approachable and very funny. And really genuine. He wouldn’t be president if he wasn’t genuine. The people who voted for him, they know that he has their best interests at heart, that he is a genuine person,” Quaid said.
“I’ve never seen anybody with that kind of energy,” Quaid continued. “People say that about me, but he’s really got a lot of energy.”
