LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dennis Quaid, 71, criticized Hollywood for how it talks about President Donald Trump. He said the industry has a “double standard” and does not take a positive stand when it comes to the president.
He also claimed that this double standard is not just in Hollywood. It exists in many areas, and people must choose which side they want to support and talk about. “There's either ‘F Trump’ from the other side or ‘I love Trump’ from a few of us who speak about it,” he stated. The actor also shared that he had a conversation with the president about the Iran strike.
Dennis Quaid opens up about Trump and his new movie
Quaid said he recently had a conversation with the president about his new movie, 'War Machine'. The film, which came out on Netflix earlier this month, is an action and sci-fi story. It also stars Alan Ritchson.
Quaid shared how the discussion went. “He said, ‘What do you got coming out?’ I said, ‘War Machine.’ He went, ‘Oh yeah, I can't wait to see that. We need that kind of movie. What's it about?’ I said, ‘It's aliens versus humans.’ He said, ‘You know I'm going to release the file,’” the actor shared. “So, we may have a prequel by the time he does it, you never know.”
He suggested the president sounded interested and excited about the film, as per Fox News.
Talking more broadly, Quaid said he believes there are “double standards” in many parts of life. He explained that people often move away from simple, common-sense ideas, saying, “Of course, there's a double standard, but there's a double standard on everything."
"You’ve got common sense, and then you’ve got like some kind of whipped-up scenario where, you know, it might be true, you know, that I could compete in women's sports or, you know, that I could, whatever, vote twice or whatever it is,” 'The Substance' actor remarked.
Quaid also spoke about his experience flying on Air Force One with the president. He described it as “fantasy camp,” saying it felt special and memorable. “It was pretty amazing,” he said. “There's everything you really kind of thought it would be.”
Dennis Quaid says Trump 'didn't want to' attack Iran
Quaid further shared that he was with the president shortly before the US and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran last month. He explained that it was a serious moment and that the decision was not easy.
Quaid recalled the president asking, "What are we going to do about Iran, you know?" He said it was clear the situation weighed heavily on him. "He didn't want to do it. And you could tell that it weighed heavy on his heart, because he knew sending any of our service people into harm's way, it's probably the biggest, hardest decision that I think the President of the United States could make. "
He added, "And it weighed heavy on him, but, you know, he had quite a poker face at the same time because he wasn't really giving anything away, but you could feel his heart. That's what it was."
Quaid said Trump described the decision-making process while also sharing what it felt like to be on the president’s plane. He explained that the experience reminded him of scenes from action movies. "With the, you know, the military guys, they're at their radar screens or whatever. The nuclear football’s just sitting there, and it was something else," the actor stated.
