WASHINGTON, DC: A video allegedly showing Israeli air defenses shooting down four of five Iranian fighter jets approaching Israel is drawing attention online. The clip has spread rapidly amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, following a series of recent developments, including Iranian missile attacks on Israel, Israeli strikes on Iranian and Hezbollah-linked targets, and announcements of temporary pauses accompanied by fresh warnings.

As netizens search for updates on the conflict, sensational videos like this one are gaining traction across social media. But does the footage actually show a real military incident? Here's what the facts reveal.

Claim: Israeli air defenses intercepted Iranian fighter jets

An X (formerly Twitter) account named @IsraelSpoofX shared a post claiming that Israeli air defenses had intercepted Iranian fighter jets. The post included a 10- to 11-second video showing jets being shot down over a densely populated city at dusk, with city lights visible below.

The footage depicts multiple dark-colored fighter jets flying in formation and performing sharp turns and evasive maneuvers. Bright flashes, explosions, and smoke trails appear around the aircraft, while some jets seem to catch fire, lose control, or crash. The video also shows glowing missile trails striking the planes as the camera follows the action with cinematic tracking shots.

The account paired the footage with a "Breaking" caption that read, "Israeli Air Defenses Intercept Iranian Fighter Jets." The post further claimed, "Reports indicate that five Iranian fighter jets were heading toward Israel for a potential attack, but Israel's advanced air defense systems detected the threat and reportedly shot down four of the aircraft before they could reach their target."

The video quickly gained traction online, attracting more than 3.8 million views within a few hours of being posted. As it spread across social media, several users questioned its authenticity.

One user asked, "@grok true or false? when it happened?" Another wrote, "It is AI generated video.. original dog fights don't look like this @grok confirm," reflecting growing skepticism about whether the footage showed a real military incident.

Fact Check: False, no evidence to back the viral video

The claim is false. There is no evidence that Israeli air defenses shot down four of five Iranian fighter jets approaching Israel. Available information shows that the viral post is spreading misinformation and appears designed to attract attention and engagement.

Recent military exchanges between Israel and Iran involved Iranian missile and drone attacks on Israel, many of which were intercepted by Israeli defense systems. Israel also carried out retaliatory airstrikes targeting Iranian military sites, air defense systems, and other infrastructure inside Iran.

However, no credible reports from major news organizations, the military, or other official sources indicate that Iranian fighter jets flew toward Israel or were shot down by Israeli air defenses. If such an incident had occurred, it would likely have received widespread coverage from international media outlets.

The viral video also raises several red flags. It features dramatic, cinematic scenes of fighter jets, explosions, missile trails, and a city skyline below, characteristics commonly seen in AI-generated or digitally created videos.
