Fact Check: Was Chelsea Clinton ordered to repay $1.7M in taxpayer funds for her wedding?
WASHINGTON, DC: According to a viral rumor circulating on social media platforms, former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, have been ordered to repay $1.7 million of taxpayer funds used for her wedding.
The claim has triggered criticism and concerns about the misuse of taxpayers' money, prompting a fact check into the claim.
Claim: Chelsea Clinton ordered to repay $1.7 million of taxpayer funds
Chelsea Clinton was allowed to use the White House's Rose Garden for her wedding in 2014, courtesy of former President Barack Obama. The event ended up costing the taxpayer $1.7 million, which the Clintons were supposed to track and pay. According to last year's DOGE report, they never did, and now a federal judge has made it obligatory. Clinton will pay the original amount plus 12 years of compounded interest at market rates. And the left said DOGE didn't find any fraud. What's your response to this......??👀 MAKE THIS GO VIRAL ON X. LET’S GO 👏

The claim surfaced as a post on X, according to which Chelsea Clinton was allowed to use the White House's Rose Garden for her wedding in 2014 as a courtesy of former President Barack Obama, which ended up costing the taxpayer $1.7 million, which the Clintons were supposed to track and pay.
The post further states that, according to last year's DOGE report, they never made the payment, and now a federal judge has made it obligatory.
The post concludes by stating that Clinton will pay the original amount plus 12 years of compounded interest at market rates.
The post has garnered hundreds of thousands of views as of this writing, with many criticizing the Clintons while a few others dismissed it as fake and called for verification.
Fact Check: The claim originated from a parody account

The claim, however, is false, as there are no reports of the former First Daughter’s wedding costing the taxpayer $1.7 million.
The claim that Obama allowed the Clintons to use White House Rose Garden for the wedding in 2014 is also false, as Chelsea married Marc Mezvinsky on July 31, 2010, at the Astor Courts estate in Rhinebeck, New York, not at the White House in 2014.
Moreover, Chelsea’s photo that accompanied the post includes a watermark stating, ‘Nothing on this page is real,’ and a search for the claim revealed that it originated from the Facebook parody account called ‘America’s Last Line Of Defense.’
Chelsea Clinton’s wedding drew scrutiny over Ghislaine Maxwell's presence

Chelsea Clinton’s wedding drew controversy over the presence of Jeffrey Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell.
The wedding had roughly 500 attendees, including political figures, celebrities, and close family friends, and half of the invitations were sent directly by the Clinton family, but the former first lady clarified that Maxwell was not personally invited by the family.
Photographs from the event even showed Maxwell mingling and smiling among other high-profile guests at the Hudson Valley ceremony.
Clinton once abruptly ended her press conference when asked further about Maxwell’s invitation.
