WASHINGTON, DC: As Opening Day for the New York Mets approaches, a persistent rumor has been circulating online that President Donald Trump might appear at Citi Field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Social media posts claiming the unusual appearance have also urged fans to arrive early, citing reports of heightened security around the stadium. Let’s break down the facts.

Claim: Trump will throw out the first pitch for Mets on Opening Day

The rumor started from an X account, @MitchCohenMLB, where the user Mitch Cohen posted, "BREAKING: President Donald Trump will throw out the first pitch for Mets on Opening Day."

The post also said, "Fans are encouraged to arrive early to the ballpark due to heightened security." It included an image of Trump in a suit wearing a glove on one hand and a ball in the other, with the president’s name and logo below, and in bold letters, "1st Pitch."

Within a few hours, the post received over 434.5K views, 4.2K likes, and many comments questioning its authenticity.

One fan wrote, "This Opening Day just got a whole lot more interesting 😅 not just baseball anymore, it’s turning into a full-on event. Fans coming early won’t just be for the seats, but to catch all the buzz too."

Another person asked, "I wonder how many ppl actually think this is true? lol"

One commenter pointed out, "Donald Trump is not throwing out the first pitch for the Mets or any other team in baseball, as this is a satire account that is not properly labeled, and due to that, this post may be completely misinterpreted."

Fact Check: False, Trump is not set to throw the first pitch for the NY Mets

There is no credible evidence that Donald Trump is set to throw out the first pitch for the New York Mets on Opening Day. No major news outlets or official team announcements have confirmed it.

The X account that shared the rumor is a satire account. Its bio reads: "MLB Insider, except it's SATIRE. I'm not impersonating and not affiliated with the MLB. I like baseball and birdwatching." The post also did not provide any official source to back up the claim.

Additionally, Grok reported that the image in the post appears to be AI-generated, showing Trump in Mets-branded gear holding a baseball. There is no official confirmation of Trump participating in Opening Day.

The Mets’ actual home opener is scheduled for March 26, 2026, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and official reports say that Freddy Peralta will throw the first pitch.
