WASHINGTON, DC: A viral screenshot claims that US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer "will resign" and pointed out that he failed badly on immigration and energy.

The claim has gained attention as Starmer faces growing political pressure, including low approval ratings, internal Labour Party tensions, ministerial resignations, and challenges from political rivals.

With speculation about Starmer's future already circulating, let's examine whether Trump actually made the statement and whether there is evidence that the British prime minister is preparing to step down.

Claim: Trump claimed Keir Starmer will resign as UK prime minister

A purported Truth Social post from Donald Trump predicting the resignation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer went viral on X (formerly Twitter).

The screenshot shows Trump writing, "Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He failed badly on two very important subjects—Immigration and energy (Open North Sea Oil). I wish him well! President DJT."

The claim gained further attention after conservative British broadcaster Piers Morgan shared the screenshot and suggested in the caption that the prediction was accurate. He wrote, "President Trump confirms Keir Starmer is resigning as Prime Minister… before Starmer has confirmed it himself. The final humiliation."

As the screenshot spread across social media, users questioned whether Trump had actually published the message on Truth Social, while others speculated about the reasons behind Starmer's alleged resignation.

Fact Check: Trump did make the claim, but Keir Starmer has not issued an official statement

The viral screenshot of the Truth Social post is authentic, as Trump did make the post on Sunday, June 21.

However, the POTUS' claim that Starmer "will resign" as UK prime minister remains a prediction rather than a confirmed fact. Starmer has not resigned, nor has he officially announced plans to do so. He has publicly stated that he remains focused on governing the country.

However, recent reporting suggests that the Labour Party leader may be preparing to outline a timetable for his departure. Multiple major news organizations have reported that he is expected to address his political future soon, with some reports indicating that an announcement could come as early as Monday. Several reports have identified an autumn departure as a possible timeline to allow for an orderly leadership transition.
