LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: Governor Kathy Hochul's former aide Linda Sun and her husband Christopher Hu were arrested in Long Island on Tuesday morning, September 3.

The arrests were confirmed by the FBI, following a raid on their $3.5 million home in Manhasset earlier this year.

What are the charges against Linda Sun and Christopher Hu?

The charges against Linda Sun and Christopher Hu remain sealed and they are scheduled to appear for arraignment on Tuesday afternoon, September 3.

According to law enforcement sources, the arrests were part of a corruption investigation unrelated to governor Hochul.

Initially hired by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, Sun had served in various roles in state government, including liaising for Asian American affairs.

Her ties to influential Queens Democrats and Asian-American lawmakers have been noted, including her previous role as a high ranking staffer to then-Assemblywoman Grace Meng (D-NY) before Meng's election to the US House of Representatives.

Investigation against Linda Sun

The FBI's raid in July on Linda Sun and her husband's Christopher Hu's Manhasset home was a key event in the ongoing probe.

Sun's husband Hu owns a liquor store in Flushing, Queens, and has been involved in several other business ventures, including an LLC related to medical equipment that emerged during the pandemic.

Speculation has grown around how the couple could afford their multimillion-dollar property, given Sun's state salary of $152, 217 in her last full year at the Labor Department.

Hochul's press secretary issued a statement in response to investigation against Sun, stating, "This individual was hired by the Executive Chamber more than a decade ago."

"We terminated her employment in March 2023 after discovering evidence of misconduct, immediately reported her actions to law enforcement and have assisted law enforcement throughout this process," read the statement, according to ABC News.

Beyond Sun's roles under Governors Hochul and Cuomo, she also worked for the Empire State Development, where she was involved in fostering business relationships and coordinating trade missions.

According to her LinkedIn profile, her portfolio focused on South and East Asian countries, including China.

Internet doubles down on Linda Sun's arrest

As Linda Sun and her husband Christopher Hu were arrested after months of FBI investigation, netizens doubled down on the couple's arrest.

One user on X wrote, "How many Linda Suns are there in American politics," and another tweeted, "Why did this take so long?!?! This woman is so corrupt!!!"

"Seems like there's always something sketchy going on in politics," a netizen commented. Someone remarked, "Crooks! Always follow the money. It never fails!"

"All the democrats are corrupt as hell. Every single one of them should be voted out," an individual opined and another penned, "Wow ... with a resume like that, Sun is a lock to be a New York Senator."
