WASHINGTON, DC: Days after Governor Kathy Hochul indefinitely halted the contentious congestion pricing plan for part of Manhattan, a major lobbying group for car dealerships in New York is arranging a fundraiser in her support, stated the New York Post.

The Greater New York Automobile Association will host the Hochul fundraiser at The Center for Automotive Education & Training in Queens on Tuesday, June 11th.

A flier for the event indicates that the organization is suggesting donations between $5,000 and $10,000. Dated May 28th, the flier announces the event, stating, "Governor Hochul has been a staunch supporter of our industry, and this reception provides an excellent opportunity to engage with her directly and show our collective support for her continued leadership."

Notably, Hochul abruptly stopped the tolling scheme on Wednesday, June 5, announcing that it will be suspended "indefinitely" because the moment is not right, given that New Yorkers are currently experiencing a crisis related to rising living costs.

Furthermore, the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA) opposes the congestion pricing toll idea. In July 2023, the GNYADA contributed $18,000 to Hochul's campaign, as reported by the Washington Examiner, which broke the story of the fundraiser's scheduled date.

Fundraising records indicate that the governor received at least an additional $22,865 from the Automobile Dealers of New York political action group in 2018.

"In keeping with Governor Hochul's commitment to maintain high ethical standards, campaign contributions have no impact on government decisions," stated Jen Goodman, a spokesperson for the Hochul campaign.
