‘Friends' Lisa Kudrow sets the record straight on Ross and Rachel’s ‘we were on a break’ debate
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Friends’ star Lisa Kudrow has put a full stop to the much-debated topic if Ross and Rachel “were on a break” or not in the iconic series. The actress shared her view on the topic while appearing on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on Monday, May 4, night.
Fallon questioned Kudrow about the “break” by saying, “I’m afraid now to bring it up,” before asking, “What is your take? Were they on a break?”
Lisa Kudrow calls Ross 'a bad boyfriend'
The 65-year-old actress first hesitated for a bit before replying, “Well, no. But it’s beyond that. It’s beyond break or not— he was a bad boyfriend.”
The audience also appeared to agree with the Primetime Emmy award winner, making Kudrow excited as she said, “Oh, you agree! Oh, I feel better. Thank you. Thank you for this. Thank you, all of you.”
Lisa Kudrow slams Ross for being a 'horrible' boyfriend
The writer further explained, “We did the reunion just like five years ago… we were all so like, 'They were on a break.' Like, ‘Rachel, that hysterical shrew, not letting him sleep with someone and won’t get back together,” before asserting, “She shouldn’t have gotten back with him because he was horrible.”
Kudrow’s take left the audience cheering for her as she added, “To me, it’s like, I don’t care if he slept with three other women or no other women. You had a crisis at work, so you weren’t available for a few nights, and he flipped out. And you’re like, ‘Wow!’”
The writer was then questioned by the host if Schwimmer knew about her thoughts, but Kudrow refrained from saying anything. Fallon, however, quipped, “He knows now.”
Jennifer Aniston asserted Rachel and Ross were 'SO not on a break'
But Schwimmer thinks very differently from his co-star Kudrow. Back in 2020, he had told Fallon, “It’s not even a question. They were on a break.”
On the other hand, Aniston claimed in 2021 that “for the record… we were SO not on a break,” while reuniting with her ‘Friends’ castmates for a new apparel line ad.
Lisa Kudrow re-watched 'Friends' to celebrate Matthew Perry
Meanwhile, Kudrow revealed her thoughts over the “break” debate a few years after she talked about her late co-star Matthew Perry and how she is re-watching the sitcom in memory of him.
“Honestly, I wasn’t able to watch it because it’s too embarrassing to watch yourself. But if I make it about Matthew, then that’s OK. And it’s just celebrating how hilarious he was — and that is what I want to remember [about him],” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
