FULTON COUNTY, GEORGIA: District Attorney Fani Willis won the Democratic primary election against attorney Christian Wise Smith on Tuesday, May 21, reported Fox News. The contest was a rematch of their race from four years ago, with a similar outcome.

According to the publication, she happened to be the favored candidate in the county where 73% voted for incumbent President Joe Biden in 2020.

Willis is presently leading the 2020 election interference case against former President Donald Trump, and as such has been under incessant scrutiny by the Republican Party. She is set to face off against her GOP rival, Atlanta-based lawyer Courtney Kramer, for the DA position in November.

Allegations of misusing federal funds against Fani Willis

Willis was subpoenaed back in February by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) over accusations of misusing federal funds.

On Wednesday, May 15, similar allegations were brought forward by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson(R-Wis), who claimed that Willis had utilized funds earmarked for helping at-risk youth and gang prevention to purchase computers and "swag".

However, the DA has slammed the investigations into her as predicated on "false reasons," stating in a recent interview, "Jim Jordan has, time after time after time, attacked my office with no legitimate purpose. Anyone who knows Jim Jordan’s history knows that he only has the purpose of trying to interfere in a criminal investigation."

"All while his jurisdiction has one of the worst crime rates, has poverty issues, and not one time has he used his position to try to investigate people who are attacking me and attacking others legitimately doing their jobs, making him illegitimate in his position, and it’s disgusting."

"So I bring that up at the federal level because now at the state level, they have decided to follow this clown’s lead. And they want to now try to interfere in an investigation, and it’s not legitimate either. They have decided in Georgia that they would like to come after me. They use false reasons for wanting to come after me," she added.

Willis had also made national headlines for her affair with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, which almost got her removed from the case. On that issue, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled back in March that she could stay on her case as long as Wade quits.
