WASHINGTON, DC: House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan accused the prosecutor in Donald Trump's hush trial of being obsessed with the former president in a letter sent to the New York attorney general.

In the letter to Letitia James on Wednesday, May 15, the Republican congressman argued lead prosecutor of Trump's ongoing criminal trial, Matthew Colangelo, was aiding Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's "politicized persecution" of the ex-president, NBC News reported.

Jordan claimed Colangelo, who was a former high-ranking official in James' office, spent years targetting Trump since his service as chief counsel in the New York AG's office overseeing her civil lawsuit against the real estate mogul that resulted in a $454 million penalty verdict.

The prosecutor, an assistant district attorney, delivered the opening argument in Trump's hush money trial in April. He previously served as a top Justice Department official in President Joe Biden's administration.

Jim Jordan's criticized Colangelo in his letter to James, which demanded documents related to the prosecutor's hiring in Trump's criminal trial.

The Ohio lawmaker argued the record "demonstrates his [Colangelo's] obsession with investigating a person rather than prosecuting a crime."

"The fact that a former senior Biden Justice Department official—whose previous employment consisted of leading "a wave of state litigation against Trump administration policies'—is now leading the prosecution of President Biden's chief political rival only adds to the perception that the Biden Justice Department is politicized and weaponized," Jordan wrote.

Bragg, who brought the hush money case against Trump, announced in late 2022 that Colangelo would join the team investigating the case.

The letter also asked for details of communication between Colangelo district offices of New York and Fulton County, Georgia, the DOJ, and Biden's presidential campaign.

Further information sought included "[a]ll personnel files related to Mr. Colangelo's hiring, employment, and termination at the New York Attorney General's Office."

Trump had previously attacked the lead prosecutor, accusing him of being one of Biden's "thugs."

Jordan's latest efforts apparently stemmed after the MAGA spearhead privately complained about his close allies not defending him publicly while he was stuck inside the Manhattan courtroom for hours since mid-April.

"No one is defending me," Trump had said. In response, a handful of top allies flocked to court on May 14 to support the White House hopeful. House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senator JD Vance, Rep Byron Donalds, former North Dakota governor Doug Burgum, and ex-GOP presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy came together at the Manhattan courthouse.

Internet slams Jim Jordan for slamming Colangelo in letter

Netizens lashed out at Rep Jim Jordan for accusing Colangelo of being obsessed with Trump.

One social media user wrote, "That’s contempt of court. When will he be charged, or is the @DOJCrimDiv happy to let the MAGA cult keep trashing the US justice system?"

Another remarked, "No, Gym, he’s doing his job—very well, indeed, especially in comparison to you and your cohorts in the DoNothing Congress of this session. FEH."

One person argued, "You’re describing the GOP! They’re obsessed with Trump!" Meanwhile, another response read, "I think that’s classic psych terminology called reassignment of feelings. Or just plain projection. Poor GYM."

"Another trump subject defending his king, gym jordan," said one individual.

Someone else noted, "Jim Jordan another theatrical presentation. Too lazy to go to NYC with the others but can't be left out."

"Just doing their job. Something trump has never done," one individual reminded Jordan.
