Internet shreds Republicans for wearing matching outfits to Donald Trump's hush money trial
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Republicans who were present at Donald Trump's trial in New York on Tuesday drew attention on social media for donning matching attire reminiscent of the former president's favored style.
Per Newsweek, several GOP lawmakers, including North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Florida Reps. Byron Donalds and Cory Mills, and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy were photographed at Trump's hush money trial wearing dark blue suits and red ties, mirroring Trump's signature ensemble.
What prompted social media uproar over Republicans’ matching outfits at the Trump trial?
Emmanuel Touhey of CSPAN shared a photo of the group of Trump’s close associates outside the Manhattan Criminal Court, writing, "Gov Burgum calls hush money trial a 'sham trial' and a 'scam trial'."
In response to the shared photo, Texas Democratic Rep Jasmine Crockett wrote on X, "Did they call each other in the morning to coordinate the fits?"

"It's giving groomsmen vibes," wrote Brittany Martinez, a Republican strategist.
Trump's hush money criminal trial in Manhattan entered its fifth week on Monday, with testimony from his former lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, continuing on Tuesday.
The ex-president is accused by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office of falsifying business records in connection with a $130,000 hush money payment made before the 2016 election to hide an alleged sexual encounter with former adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Donald Trump, the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee, has pleaded not guilty to all 34 felony charges and denied having an affair with Daniels, claiming the case against him is politically motivated.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday during the trial in New York, House Speaker Mike Johnson explained, "President Trump is a friend, and I wanted to be here to support him."
"This is the fifth week that President Trump has been in court for this sham of a trial. They are doing this intentionally to keep him here and keep him off of the campaign trail," Johnson said.

Rep Mills also addressed reporters outside the trial, saying, "I think the American people see this for what it is. They want to keep President Trump off the campaign trail. They're seeing what's happening in the swing states."
"Michael Cohen has no credibility, no integrity and this is weaponization against our president," the Sunshine State congressman added.
