NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Hollywood legend Robert De Niro appeared on the May 14 episode of 'The View' to promote his new film 'Ezra,' when he shared a stark warning about a potential second Donald Trump presidency in the United States.

Speaking with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, the veteran actor said that the presumptive GOP nominee could come to power and change the country along the lines of fascist European dictators if people do not take him seriously, reported Fox News.

Robert De Niro's stark warning about Donald Trump

"I don’t understand why people are not taking him seriously," De Niro said of the former president. "Because you read about it historically in other countries that they didn’t take the people seriously, I think Hitler and Mussolini - ‘they’re fools and clowns.’"

Hostin pointed out that Trump was leading the polls in battleground states, and asked whether the actor had any advice for incumbent Joe Biden's campaign and his voters.

However, De Niro continued to stress that Trump would be doing good on his promises, saying, "Who does not think that this guy is gonna do exactly what he says he's gonna do? He’s done it already. And then what? We’re gonna sit around and say what, we told you so? It’s gonna happen. If he gets elected, it’s gonna change this country."

The 80-year-old admitted that some people believe having Trump in the White House would improve their lives, and cautioned them with, "Those people who support him, with anger and hate, because that’s what he’s about, they’re gonna see."

Amid a slew of profanity, the actor further justified his stance of wanting to punch the controversial businessman in the face by stating that the latter had made a similar remark to somebody at a rally.

"You don’t talk that way to people. What kind of person does that?" he asked, adding, "He’s done everything, what more do you need? It’s almost like he wants to do the worst that he could possibly do to show this country."

Internet slams Robert De Niro for unleashing a rant against Donald Trump

The internet was not impressed with De Niro's opinions about Trump.

"Who cares what Robert Deniro says," expressed a user reacting to the news on the social media platform X.

"He’s off his rocker. Such a disgrace. Stick your acting," wrote another.

"De Niro should stick to acting. His political views don’t make any sense," echoed a third.

"He's played so many fictional characters he has totally lost touch with reality," jibed a fourth.

"Just a group of whack jobs philosophizing," quipped a fifth about the show.
