LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bill Maher has made a striking about-face on his stance regarding the trial against former President Trump in New York. Previously skeptical, Maher now sees potential for a Trump defeat and predicts that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg could emerge as a "rising star" in Democratic politics if there's a conviction.

According to Foxnews, in a recent episode of 'Real Time', Maher expressed his initial reservations about the trial, believing it to be the least serious among the charges brought against Trump.

Bill Maher's reversal and impact of Pecker's testimony

However, his perspective shifted after hearing the testimony of David Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer. Pecker's revelations about Trump's alleged use of "catch-and-kill" payments to conceal extramarital affair allegations during the 2016 election cycle resonated with Maher, who now believes Trump's motive was not to protect his family but to win the election.

Maher humorously remarked on Pecker's role in the trial, "Brought down by a Pecker, this guy." He also highlighted the potential implications of a conviction, suggesting that it could significantly impact the upcoming election by swaying the votes of independents and Republicans who view Trump unfavorably.

"And by the way, if this goes that way and Trump loses, it's going to change the whole election," Maher emphasized during the discussion. "A number of independents, a significant number, and Republicans say their vote will change if he is a convicted criminal. And he'll look like a loser, not that he doesn't already, but you know."

Additionally, Maher singled out Alvin Bragg, whom he has previously criticized, as a figure poised for political ascendance within the Democratic Party if the trial results in a conviction.

"And Alvin Bragg is going to be the rising star of the Democratic Party because everyone said, ‘Not a good idea,’ including me. So, we'll see," Maher remarked.

Internet blasts Maher over U-turn

Bill Maher's endorsement of Alvin Bragg as a potential Democratic star amid the Trump trial sparked a flurry of reactions on social media.

One user wrote, "Alvin Bragg needs to back away from the table."

Another said, "Rising star? Did they move the doughnuts to the top shelf?"

One user replied, "Yes Billy, I can see you and Alvin on the 2028 democrate ticket Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa."

Another noted, "I don’t even get how Alvin Bragg can leave his home, the damage he’s done to the rule of law is hideous."

Someone else said, "Bill Maher got paid."
