Internet fumes as Nathan Wade implies he doesn't regret having a workplace affair with Fani Willis
WASHINGTON, DC: Nathan Wade, the former special prosecutor in Donald Trump's Georgia election interference case, implied in an interview that he didn't regret having an affair with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, but was remorseful for the controversy that developed, according to the New York Post.
He made the remarks in his first interview since quitting the Georgia election meddling case in March due to a judge's decision requiring him or Willis to stand down.
Nathan Wade regrets that a private matter became the focal point of Donald Trump's Georgia election interference case
Wade had an evasive answer when asked by ABC News' Linsey Davis if he regretted his relationship with Willis, who is still working on the case.
He said, "I regret that that private matter became the focal point of this very important prosecution. This is a very important case. I hate that my personal life has begun to overshadow the true issues in the case."
Wade appeared to downplay the affair, which nevertheless had the potential to undermine the prosecution's case against the former president. He mentioned, "Workplace romances are as American as apple pie. It happens to everyone. But it happened to the two of us."
After one of Trump's co-defendants claimed the prosecutor and the DA were having an affair before his hiring in 2021, Wade withdrew from the election interference case.
Wade and Willis acknowledged their romantic connection, but they maintained that their relationship did not begin until 2022, the year Wade was chosen to lead the Trump case, and that it ended in 2023.
However, several people, including a former DA employee, said that the couple started dating around 2019 or 2020.
Some even claimed Wade received additional compensation and took Willis for lavish travels as she kept the lawsuit against Trump and his co-defendants going longer.
Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee declared during a hearing in March that there was insufficient evidence to support a conflict of interest. At the same time, he expressed his harsh opinion, writing that "an odor of mendacity remains."
He ruled that either Wade or Willis had to withdraw from the case. Subsequently, Wade resigned in a matter of hours.
Wade acknowledged to ABC that although he and Willis could have put their feelings on hold and waited until after their case, romances aren't always rational.
He expressed, "When you are in the middle of it, these feelings are developing and you get to a point where the feelings are so strong that you start to want to do things that really are none of the public’s concern."
Internet reacts to Nathan Wade's remarks on the affair
One wrote, "We don't care. They are an embarrassment to the black community," while another claimed, "Of course he doesn't regret it, Fani put $700,000 in her boyfriends pocket."
"I'll take the pie over Fani," quipped a person and someone else added, "That's because he doesn't think he did anything wrong. Neither does Fani."
"No one's mad at Nathan Wade for taking a job from his lover and taking advantage of the money she got him. That's Fani's fault. His efforts to hide the money instead of funding his sick wife's healthcare was despicable. That's why we're mad at him," expressed an individual.
