'Reap what you sow': Internet trolls Nathan Wade as he seeks alimony reduction amid financial crisis
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: In a dramatic turn of events following his resignation as special prosecutor in the Trump election fraud case, Nathan Wade is embroiled in a bitter legal battle over finances with his estranged wife, Joycelyn Wade.
Recent court filings reveal Nathan’s plea of financial hardship, citing his loss of income and diminished earnings from his private practice, as reasons to seek a reduction in alimony and other financial obligations to Joycelyn.
Forced resignation and financial fallout
The saga began when Nathan Wade was forced to step down as special prosecutor in the Georgia election fraud case due to the revelation of his extramarital affair with District Attorney Fani Willis. His income, which included a hefty $250 hourly rate for prosecuting the case against Donald Trump and several co-defendants, abruptly ceased, leading to a financial crunch.
Investigations into Nathan's affair with District Attorney Fani Willis unveiled that he had earned over $700,000 while working for the DA. Shockingly, he had spent a substantial amount on luxurious trips to various destinations with Fani, exacerbating his financial crisis.
Court documents filed by Wade’s divorce lawyer, M Scott Kimbrough, outline the dire situation, stating that Nathan is no longer able to sustain the financial obligations set forth in the temporary agreement reached with Joycelyn just months ago.
“With the income from [Wade’s] employment as the Special Prosecutor no longer coming in, and with income from [his] private practice being diminished, [he] is no longer able to … meet the financial obligations set forth in the temporary order,” Kimbrough wrote in papers filed Monday, April 8.
Counterclaims and courtroom drama
Joycelyn, Nathan’s wife of over two decades, countered with allegations that he had stopped paying child support for their two children, neglected rent payments, and failed to provide financial support for her urgent medical procedures.
She claimed to have exhausted her savings on their children after Nathan abruptly cut them off, telling them to “get the money from your mother,” per the papers. This left her with minimal funds to address her own declining health, which prevented her from working.
Furthermore, Joycelyn accused Nathan of reneging on his promises to support their son’s aspirations to become a professional soccer player in Europe and to assist their daughter with rent and medical school admissions exam preparation.
The legal battle intensified when Joycelyn’s attorneys sought judicial intervention, requesting Nathan’s incarceration until he fulfilled his financial obligations.
The contentious divorce proceedings took a public turn when Joycelyn subpoenaed Fani Willis, alleging that Nathan had been diverting funds meant for support payments to finance extravagant vacations for Willis.
Despite the scandalous revelations, Nathan and Fani maintained that their relationship began after Fani hired Nathan, and they claimed to have evenly split the expenses of their vacations. However, the appearance of impropriety prompted Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee to demand Nathan’s resignation from the Trump case, the New York Post reported.
