ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Nathan Wade, the lead prosecutor in the Georgia election interference case involving former President Donald Trump, has resigned from his position on Friday, March 15.

Per the New York Post, the decision was made following a recent ruling by Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee, who issued a strongly-worded ruling that called for either Wade or District Attorney Fani Willis to step down due to the complications arising from their romantic relationship.

This development has caused significant disruption to the ongoing legal proceedings against the former president and it remains to be seen how the case will proceed in the absence of Wade.

What did Donald Trump say following Nathan Wade’s resignation?

Nathan Wade wrote in his resignation letter to Fani Willis, “I am proud of the work our team has accomplished in investigating, indicting, and litigating this case.”

“Seeking justice for the people of Georgia and the United States, and being part of the effort to ensure that the rule of law and democracy are preserved, has been the honor of a lifetime,” the former special prosecutor added.

The embattled former President Trump reacted to Wade’s resignation by posting on his social networking platform, Truth Social, “Fani Willis lover, Mr Nathan Wade Esq, has just resigned in disgrace, as per his and her reading of the Judge’s Order today.”

The 77-year-old MAGA figurehead remarked, “Nathan was the “Special,” in more ways than one, Prosecutor “engaged” by Fani (pronounced Fauni!) Willis, to persecute TRUMP for Crooked Joe Biden and his Department of Injustice, for purposes of Election Interference and living the life of the Rich & Famous.”

“This is the equivalent of Deranged Jack Smith getting “canned,” BIG STUFF, something which should happen in the not too distant future!!!” Trump concluded.

Nathan Wade’s resignation, who held the Special Prosecutor position from November 2021 until recently, was accepted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who praised him for being “brave enough to step forward and take on” the election interference case.

In January of this year, one of Trump's co-defendants alleged that Wade had been involved in a romantic relationship with Willis since 2019, which was before he was hired, thereby presenting a conflict of interest.

During their two-day testimony last month, Willis and Wade denied any romantic involvement before 2022.

However, former DA's office employee Robin Yeartie and others maintained that they were involved in a relationship two years earlier.

The defense argued that Willis had intentionally protracted the election interference case against Donald Trump to enrich Wade, who allegedly used some of his earnings to take her on lavish trips.

In his ruling issued on Friday, March 15, Judge Scott McAfee determined that there was insufficient evidence to establish a serious conflict of interest, however, he took issue with the chronology of events presented by Wade and Willis.

"An odor of mendacity remains," the judge stated in the stern ruling, adding that Willis and Wade's actions "further underpin the finding of an appearance of impropriety and the need to make proportional efforts to cure it."

Judge McAfee put forth two options to the state. The first option was for Willis to recuse herself from the case, and the second option was for Wade to tender his resignation, thereby allowing Willis to remain on the case, instead.

"This finding is by no means an indication that the Court condones this tremendous lapse in judgment or the unprofessional manner of the District Attorney's testimony during the evidentiary hearing," McAfee asserted in a particularly scathing passage of his Friday ruling.

He noted that there are still "reasonable questions" concerning the timeline of Willis and Wade's affair that neither party's testimony could resolve.

The judge also took issue with a speech in which Fani Willis said that the defense was "playing the race card" by characterizing the affair as "legally improper."

“Providing this type of public comment creates dangerous waters for the District Attorney to wade further into,” he cautioned.
