Kate Hudson shares rare and never-before-seen photos of daughter Rani Rose for her 8th birthday

Kate Hudson celebrated her daughter Rani Rose’s 8th birthday with a heartfelt video montage shared on Instagram. In the caption, Hudson lovingly described her youngest child as “our baby” and wrote, “Rani Rose, our baby, is 8! Our little dancing, avid reading, skincare obsessed, horse loving, Harry Potter die hard, cuddle bug, WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!” Rani was born on October 2, 2018, to Hudson and her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa. Like her brothers, she was given a meaningful family name. Hudson previously explained that Rani, pronounced like “Ronnie,” was chosen in honor of Fujikawa’s father, Ron Fujikawa, who died in 2012. “To name her after him is an honor,” Hudson said.

In one of the photos, Rani can be seen posing on the beach with a beautiful sunset in the background.

In a previous interview with PEOPLE, the actress opened up about Rani’s personality. “She’s the best. She’s so magical. She’s definitely her mother’s daughter. It takes her forever to get out of the house. She’s very particular about her wardrobe, her clothes, and her vibe,” she shared in 2024. Hudson continued, “She is just a total firecracker. But then she’s much more emotional than I think I was when I was little. She’s much more of an empath.”

Rani was also seen striking an acrobatic pose on the beach, looking cheerful and carefree. At just eight years old, she is already showing an interest in fashion and makeup. In April 2022, Kate Hudson shared a glimpse of her daughter’s creativity, showing off a rainbow-inspired makeup look that Rani had requested. The proud mom has also previously highlighted Rani’s budding fashion sense, sharing a carousel of photos of her modeling different outfits and joking, “I know NYFW is currently happening east coast BUT it’s a daily thing over here guys.”

Rani was also seen enjoying some quality time with her older brothers, Ryder Robinson and Bingham Hawn Bellamy, in one of the photos. The siblings share a close bond, with Hudson often giving glimpses of their family moments. Ryder even got a tattoo featuring his younger siblings’ initials, CBR. The “C” stands for Cheyenne Genevieve, Ryder’s half-sister and Chris Robinson’s daughter with his ex-wife Allison Bridges, while “B” represents Bingham and “R” stands for Rani. “Family connections all round!” Bellamy shared on X at the time.

One of the photos in Hudson's carousel showed Rani sharing a sweet hug with her dad, Danny Fujikawa. The 8-year-old is seen wrapping her arms around her father's neck as he sits in front of a table. As a musician, composer and record label co-owner, Fujikawa often shares his love of music with Rani. Hudson has frequently given fans glimpses of the father-daughter duo enjoying special moments together, including dancing around their living room to classic Al Green vinyl records.

Kate Hudson and her daughter Rani were also seen baking together in the video montage. Rani developed a love for cooking from a young age, and in August 2022, Hudson told PEOPLE that her daughter is often by her side in the kitchen. “Rani loves food, and I cook with her all the time,” Hudson said. “She’s my little helper. She’s very precise in everything she does.”
