Mogul, Muse, Swamp Fox: 8 Secret Service code names for Trump’s inner circle straight out of a spy thriller

Trump's code name could hardly be more on-brand. The businessman-turned-president is known as 'Mogul,' a moniker that evokes the real-estate empire and celebrity persona he built long before entering politics. Intriguingly, it wasn't Trump's first suggestion. During a Republican presidential debate in September 2015, Trump was asked what Secret Service name he would choose for himself and jokingly offered “Humble.”

If Trump is 'Mogul,' first lady Melania Trump is 'Muse.' The alliterative pairing follows the tradition of members of a presidential family sharing the first letter of their code names. “Muse” also happens to fit neatly with Melania's public biography. Before becoming first lady, the Slovenia-born Trump worked internationally as a model.

Ivanka Trump's reported code name is arguably the most superhero-like of the bunch: 'Marvel.' She received Secret Service protection as Trump's daughter and later served as a senior White House adviser during his first administration.

Donald Trump Jr received one of the family's more outdoorsy monikers, 'Mountaineer.' The name is a particularly appropriate fit for Trump's eldest son, who has long cultivated an outdoorsman image and frequently speaks about hunting, fishing and spending time away from cities.

The president's second-oldest son has been identified as 'Marksman.' Like his brother, Eric has publicly participated in hunting and other outdoor activities, making 'Marksman' another name that appears to have at least some connection to its holder's public interests.

Jared Kushner, who served as a senior White House adviser during Trump's first term, was reportedly known as 'Mechanic.' The code name also proved oddly fitting for a White House adviser who frequently worked behind the scenes on complicated policy and diplomatic projects.

JD Vance broke away from the Trump family’s parade of M-names with 'Bobcat,' a code name with distinctly personal roots. The choice is widely understood as a nod to Ohio University, Vance’s alma mater, whose athletic teams are known as the Bobcats.

Then there is the newest name – not from a family member – to emerge from Trump's orbit, and perhaps the most colorful. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent revealed that his Secret Service code name is "Swamp Fox." The choice carries a distinctly South Carolina flavor. "Swamp Fox" is famously associated with Revolutionary War figure Francis Marion, a South Carolinian known for using unconventional tactics against British forces. Bessent himself is a South Carolina native, making the historical reference particularly apt.
