OAKS, PENNSYLVANIA: Former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera has publicly denounced Donald Trump, signaling a complete break from his previous support of the MAGA movement, the Daily Mail reported.

Rivera, who once considered Trump a "loyal friend," took to X (formerly Twitter) with a scathing statement, accusing the former president of betraying the US Constitution and spreading lies about the 2020 election.

The seasoned journalist wrote, "Former President Trump is a sore loser who cannot be trusted to honor the Constitution. That is why I am voting for Kamala Harris to be our 47th President."

Rivera, now 81, revealed that his friendship with Trump soured after a phone call in November 2020, where the former president allegedly assured the Fox News host he would accept the election results. However, Trump later launched a campaign to discredit the outcome, leading to Rivera's profound disillusionment.

Rivera lamented Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election, recalling a conversation in which Trump promised he would “do the right thing.” Instead, Rivera claimed that Trump incited a movement to undermine democracy.

"As I reported on Fox News that same morning, Friday the 13th, he told me he was a reasonable man and would do the right thing if that time came," Rivera wrote.

"It never did. Instead, President Trump embarked on an increasingly menacing campaign to discredit the 2020 election. If you are a Republican, Donald Trump has made a liar of you. He has coaxed and intimidated tens of millions into pretending he was reelected in 2020, and that the election was stolen," he said while accusing the MAGA spearhead of coercing Republicans into supporting the false narrative of a stolen election.

In a 2023 interview on 'The View', Rivera spoke openly about his disillusionment with Trump, citing the former president’s refusal to accept the election results and his divisive rhetoric.

Rivera, who had known the GOP presidential nominee for decades, said their relationship fractured following Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election.

"I will dedicate whatever energy I have left in the profession to ensure that he is not reelected president ever," Rivera told the hosts of 'The View'. Despite their long history, Rivera could no longer stand by Trump’s actions, particularly his role in perpetuating false claims about the election.

Geraldo Rivera's recent public denouncement of Donald Trump and his MAGA beliefs has ignited a flurry of reactions across social media.

One user remarked, "That’s a lot of words to simply say “I’m a dips**t.”

Another commenter noted, "Most of what you just described, is absolutely false and misleading. Cool story though."

One person stated, "I didn’t read all that but I’m looking forward to watching Trump win his third presidential election."

"Your post is disgraceful in its dishonesty. You’re a disgrace to this country. President Trump is absolutely the clear champion of our Constitution in a time of rampant corruption and Marxist-driven confusion and tyranny. You are on the wrong side of history," added another.

"You don't have to justify your behavior. Logic isn't your strong suit, we get it," one person said, while another added, "You will be voting for the person who loses... but that's ok."
