WASHINGTON, DC: Geraldo Rivera, NewsNation's correspondent-at-large, didn't hold back while discussing his former friend Donald Trump's performance in the presidential debate against Kamala Harris.

"He [former President Donald Trump] was childish. He was creepy. He was cringey. That thing about eating dogs, 'they eat dogs!' He was obsessed with it. He wouldn't let it go. He put that bone in his mouth and he rattled it. And I thought that she withstood Hurricane Trump. She came across as competent, even confident, after that first half hour, which I agree with you, Trump…that was definitely his best half hour," Rivera said.

Geraldo Rivera said Donald Trump was 'terrible' and failed to make a 'straight point' in the debate

"Then he just descended into chaos. He couldn't make a straight point. He kept returning to generalizations as, thinking that through braggadocio, alone, that he could prevail. He was terrible tonight, and you can apologize for him all you want, but he did not seem presidential," Rivera stated, per OK Magazine

Republican presidential nominee, former U.S. President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris debate for the first time during the presidential election campaign at The National Constitution Center on September 10, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After earning the Democratic Party nomination following President Joe Biden's decision to leave the race, Harris faced off with Trump in what may be the only debate of the 2024 race for the White House. He added, "He wouldn't even have made the debate team at a junior high. He was just trying to use his bully lines, and then when he says, 'Biden hates you?' Talk about junior high. I thought that he was absolutely ineffective, blathering and, you know, and he was so unprepared on the issues. "

Rivera praised Kamala Harris, saying, "She was ready. She knew. She almost knew what he was going to go off on ahead of time. She was ready for him. Whacked him. Ready for him. Whacked him again. And when they got to abortion…”

Geraldo Rivera thinks Donald Trump lost his best chance to become the favorite

"He lost his best chance to be the favorite going forward," Rivera opined.

"I predict that there's going to be, there was a slight surge happening from Trump. He had taken the bloom off the rose of Harris from post-convention. I believe that her momentum will restart because of the obvious disparity in her performance to Trump's performance."

He continued, "He was the bully, unfocused. She was presidential. Dare I say it, that tiny little thing compared to that big, hulking, hulking man, came across as eye to eye. She stood eye to eye and toe to toe to Trump, and she won this round.”

Donald Trump believes he won the debate

However, Donald Trump believes he did an amazing job in the debate against Kamala Harris.

“It was three on one. It was a rigged deal, as I assumed it would be, because when you looked at the fact that they were correcting everything and not correcting with her,” he continued, claiming that “six or seven times she told an outright lie” that was not challenged.

“They’re dishonest. I think ABC took a big hit last night … They ought to take away their license for the way they did that.”

“I’ve been told I’m a good debater,” Trump added. “I think it was one of my better debates, maybe my best debate.”

Donald Trump's absurd claim about Haitian immigrants eating pets

Donald Trump has reiterated a bogus allegation that pets owned by residents of a tiny Ohio city have been eaten by illegal immigrants from Haiti.

"In Springfield, they are eating the dogs. The people that came in, they are eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there," Trump said during ABC's presidential debate, BBC reports.

However, local authorities informed the outlet that there had been "no credible reports" substantiating this incident. On social media, the unfounded rumor gained traction, thanks to Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance's promotion of it on X. The post has received over 11 million views as of Wednesday, September 11.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby called Vance's comments "dangerous" and a "conspiracy theory... based on an element of racism".

Internet sides with Geraldo Rivera after he slams Trump for his disastrous debate performance

Netizens voiced their support for Rivera as he criticized the former US President's lackluster debate performance against Kamala Harris. One X user tweeted, "Not a Geraldo fan, but he is not wrong."

Another added, "Somehow, it doesn’t even feel like they were harsh enough on him here. I rewatched the debate today, it was one of the worst debate performances of all time and that’s not a joke."

"Geraldo Rivera still sucks, but at least he told the truth about Trump's disastrous debate performance," remarked one while someone else said, "Geraldo Rivera and most common sense Republicans will vote for Kamala Harris in November."

"Geraldo being ashamed says it all!" echoed a user.
