WASHINGTON, DC: Many social media users recently criticized President Joe Biden for mispronouncing the name of murdered nursing student Laken Riley as 'Lincoln Riley'. This led to a mock outpouring of condolences on social media for USC coach Lincoln Riley, as users indirectly took a dig at Biden.

Biden's mispronunciation of Laken's name occurred amid controversy surrounding her death, which has been linked to an illegal immigrant.

Joe Biden slammed for mispronouncing Laken Riley's name

According to the New York Post, fans and supporters of University of Southern California football coach Lincoln Riley took to social media this week to offer mock condolences after President Biden mistakenly mentioned his name during his State of the Union address on Thursday, March 7.

Biden meant to express his sympathies for Laken Riley but ended up mispronouncing the late nursing student's name. He said, "Lincoln — Lincoln Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal."

Biden faced criticism for getting the name wrong, not only from social media users but also from Laken's mother, Allyson Phillips.

Phillips supposedly wrote on Facebook, "Biden does not even KNOW my child’s name – it’s pathetic! If you are going to say her name (even when forced to do so) at least say the right name!" in response to a post celebrating the passage of the Laken Riley Act.

The grieving mother also felt that by mentioning his son Beau's death, the President was trying to downplay her child's murder.

Biden delivered his State of the Union address after the House passed the Laken Riley bill. This bill, named after Riley, requires federal authorities to detain undocumented immigrants who commit theft or burglary.
