NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Yankee Stadium erupted in a thunderous "USA!" chant after a man carrying a Palestinian flag ran onto the field during the Yankees-Mets game on Friday night, September 11, and was tackled by security.

The dramatic scene unfolded during the seventh inning, with the intruder sprinting across the outfield before security personnel chased him down and brought him crashing onto the grass.

The video below shows the dramatic moment unfold and has since gone viral on social media.

The viral video shows the man running across the field toward centerfield while apparently carrying a Palestinian flag.

He had barely made his way across the playing surface before security officers began pursuing him.

The chase ended with security catching up and tackling him onto the grass.

But it was the reaction from the stands that immediately transformed the disruption into a viral moment.

As the man was taken down, the stadium broke into loud chants of "USA! USA!"

The chant quickly spread through the crowd, with thousands of spectators appearing to join in.

And the timing made the scene even more striking.

The field invasion happened at approximately 9.11 pm, during a game being played on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Suspect faces misdemeanor charges

The man was later identified by police as Kelly Marcucci of Long Island.

According to the NYPD, he is now facing misdemeanor charges of interference with a professional sporting event and trespassing.

The field invasion also came after a series of social-media posts reportedly made by Marcucci earlier Friday.

The New York Post reported that he published a lengthy Facebook post at around 4.30 pm that referenced topics including 9/11, capitalism, Zionism, Saudi Arabia, President Donald Trump, and Joe Rogan.

Marcucci also reportedly posted a video from Yankee Stadium before the field invasion.

In it, he showed off a personalized jersey bearing his name and the phrase 'No Kings', a slogan associated with opposition to Trump.

His social-media profiles reportedly describe him as a journalist and "spiritual tactician" and say he graduated from Stony Brook University.

The New York Post reported that his online posts have included conspiracy theories, references to Jeffrey Epstein and commentary about political figures.

He also reportedly described himself in one post as a "revisionist-Marxist."
