LANSING, MICHIGAN: Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer came under fire for feeding Doritos to a podcaster by resembling the actions of communion, a Catholic sacrament.

The viral video was first posted by the podcaster Liz Plank on her Instagram account.

Plank could be seen kneeling with her mouth open in front of Whitmer, who was wearing a Harris-Walz camouflage cap and a packet of Doritos in her hand, as per the New York Post. The Michigan Gov imitated the priests giving Holy Communion to Catholics as she fed a Dorito chip to the podcaster.

Podcaster shares bizarre video to promote CHIPS Act

After placing the Dorito into the podcaster's mouth, Gretchen Whitmer looked directly into the camera without any expressions as the song 'Dilemma' by Nelly played in the background. The video appears to be a spoof of a TikTok meme where friends feed food to each other and awkwardly stare into the camera.

The video posted on Thursday, October 10, gathered nearly eight thousand likes on Instagram.

Plank, the spokesperson for 'Hotties for Harris', an influencer group supporting Vice President Kamala Harris for president, framed the video as a commentary on industrial policy, focusing on the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act. A major policy initiative of the Joe Biden administration, the CHIPS Act allocated billions to support the semiconductor sector.

"If he won't, Gretchen Whitmer will. Chips aren't just delicious, the CHIPS Act is a game-changer for U.S. tech and manufacturing, boosting domestic production of semiconductors to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers! Donald Trump would put that at risk," read the video's caption.

Whitmer also took part in an interview with Plank. She hosts a segment named 'Chip Chat', where presenters discuss their favorite snacks along with issues that matter to them. Plank released the interview on YouTube, where the duo ate Michigan-based Better Made chips and discussed abortion, the kidnapping plot against Whitmer, and male voters.

A spokesperson for Whitmer defended the video after it sparked outrage for imitating a Catholic practice.

"The governor’s social media is well known for infusing her communications with pop culture," said the governor's spokesperson Helen Hare, according to The Detroit News.

"This popular trend has been used by countless people, including Billie Eilish, Kylie Jenner, and Stephen Colbert, and the fact that people are paying attention to a video promoting President Biden’s CHIPS Act proves it’s working."

Gretchen Whitmer slammed over 'communion' style Dorito feeding

Netizens bashed Gretchen Whitmer for imitating the communion of Catholics while feeding Doritos to the podcaster.

"Democrat Gov Gretchen Whitmer blasphemes the Eucharist, feeding a Dorito to a leftist podcaster as if it’s Holy Communion. Wearing a Kamala hat. It’s wild that some Christians refuse to vote when Democrats obviously loathe you… because you’re Christian," political commentator Liz Wheeler wrote.

"It’s a mockery of the Eucharist. I’m not even catholic but it’s blatant blasphemy. And the way she looks at the camera, there’s a demon in there," one user wrote.

"Mocking communion. Disgraceful," another added.

"Seems like they are mocking Christian communion," read one response.

"Like she’s giving her communion. Mocking Christians," someone else wrote.

"Mocking the sacrament of the Eucharist to "own the Cons" or something," an individual chimed in.

"Super creepy and pretty sure mocking the sacrament of the Eucharist," another user remarked.

"If you're not Catholic, and perhaps do not get what Michigan gov Whitmer is mocking here, time to get educated. This is not cool. And I'm a rotestant," read one remark.
