WASHINGTON, DC: Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan recently ignited controversy with her comments on CNN’s 'State of the Union,' where she accused Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett of deceiving Congress.

Whitmer's comments followed the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Organization, which overturned Roe v Wade, significantly impacting abortion rights in the United States, as per Breitbart.

On CNN, Whitmer asserted, "I think we all know the truth here. There’s no question that with the three appointments that Donald Trump put onto our United States Supreme Court, three people who lied to Congress, betrayed their oath of office and put forward the Dobbs decision."

She expressed concern over the broader implications of the ruling, emphasizing the restricted access to fundamental health care for women in many states and the threats to medications like Mifepristone, IVF, surrogacy, and contraception.

Whitmer further criticized Republicans for their opposition to policies safeguarding access to contraception, labeling their stance as "disingenuous at best and an outright lie at worst."

Her remarks reflect ongoing tensions between Democrats and Republicans over reproductive rights, an issue that has become a focal point in American politics following the Dobbs decision.

Whitmer has been a vocal advocate for abortion rights, urging President Joe Biden to adopt a stronger stance on the issue as he campaigns for re-election, according to POLITICO.

During an interview on CBS’s 'Face the Nation,' Whitmer suggested that Biden should emphasize abortion rights more, stating, "I think it would be good if he did." She highlighted Biden’s belief that decisions about abortion should be made by women, their families, and healthcare professionals.

As the Democratic governor of Michigan, a politically divided state, and a co-chair of Biden’s re-election campaign, Whitmer credited the focus on abortion rights with helping Democrats secure victories across the ballot in Michigan.

This issue played a significant role in her own re-election in 2022 and in flipping both branches of the state legislature to Democratic control for the first time in decades.

Top Biden campaign officials have identified abortion rights as a crucial issue, but Biden himself has been somewhat restrained in addressing it. As a Catholic, Biden has expressed personal reservations about abortion, though he has supported the Roe v Wade decision and opposed efforts to restrict abortion access.
