Gwen Stefani reveals she had no clue who Blake Shelton was before 'The Voice' romance
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Gwen Stefani revealed that she had no idea who her now-husband Blake Shelton was before they first met on 'The Voice'. The revelation adds an interesting twist to their love story, which began in 2014 after Stefani's 20-year marriage to Gavin Rossdale ended.
Stefani and Shelton, who spent six years dating, tied the knot in 2021. This interview comes on the heels of Stefani’s latest album release, 'Bouquet', which dropped on November 15, making headlines across the entertainment world.
Gwen Stefani says she had never listened to husband Blake Shelton's music before meeting him
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Gwen Stefani opened up about her life with Blake Shelton, sharing some surprising insights. She revealed that, before meeting him, she had never heard of Blake or listened to country music.
"I never listened to country music, so while Blake was super successful, I never even knew he existed before I met him," she admitted.
Stefani also expressed her love for collaborating with Shelton, describing him as humble and unaware of how talented he truly is. "I love singing with him. He’s very humble and doesn’t realize how good he is. There’s something so attractive about that," she said.
Stefani’s latest album features songs that depict a fairytale-like ending with Shelton, particularly in the song 'Purple Irises', which they collaborated on. She shared how Shelton became involved in the song’s creation: "When he heard Purple Irises, he loved it so much he ended up singing on it."
Gwen Stefani shares how her bond with Blake Shelton inspired her recent song
Despite the painful end of her marriage to Gavin Rossdale in 2016, Gwen Stefani found love again with Blake Shelton, whom she considers a "second chance" at happiness.
“When my family fell apart, it was a catastrophe. How do you pick yourself up from that?” she said of her divorce.
"But God put this other person there to love me," she added.
Stefani also explained how her bond with Shelton inspired her latest album, ‘Bouquet’ and especially the track 'Purple Irises'.
According to Page Six, she revealed, "I know this sounds weird, but Blake and I came together in gardening. We have a house together in Oklahoma and during the pandemic, we came across this very old building on the land and there were some purple irises, which someone must have planted centuries ago, but they’ve survived."
Reflecting on her relationship with Shelton, Stefani continued, "I wrote the song ‘Purple Irises’ about that and how it feels to find true love and the insecurities of not wanting to lose it."
